Boosted 105’s – PHAT Wheels

Boosted Board have dropped some bigger wheels! The Boosted 105’s.

Firstly, they want to make transportation fun, fast and simple. The Boosted 105’s are designed to allow riders to ride with confidence. These new wheels will bring a smooth ride, the 105’s are a great size and are very soft too! Bringing with it a very smooth ride!

With the Boosted 105’s you are free to cruise the streets of your city with confidence. As you are able to cruise all over the cracks and bumps in the road with no problem at all! Therefore, just focus on the road and and enjoy the ride ahead!

They’re uniquely designed and Boosted’s engineers have spent hours testing geometries, experimenting with grips and optimizing shock absorption. The result of all that hard work is the Boosted 105’s! Extra soft wheels means extra grippy! The 72a durometer urethane delivers a comfortable ride, giving you extra cushion but firm enough to remain durable for thousands of miles. While the rounded edge of the side walls enhance the smoothness of the ride. There’s less chipping and easier curb climbing. Furthermore the larger wheel to gear ratio will give the Boosted Board a higher top speed! However, in exchange for a higher top speed, acceleration and braking performance is ride feel. So therefore riders will have to make adjustments as the stopping distance will be greater!

The Boosted 105’s are 30% larger than standard wheels and smooth out the terrain. As they feature something called a custom urethane pouring process, which form 12 hollow pockets on the inside surface of each wheel. These pockets give extra space, which allows the soft urethane to flex and compress with the bumps and contours of the road. While not only making the ride smooth but maintaining contact with even the roughest of roads.

Boosted Beams – Boost in the dark!

Boosted Boards are a lot of fun, but when it gets to nighttime it can get a little tricky to ride them safely around town. Boosted have heard you loud and clear and have dropped an amazing accessory for your Board. The Boosted Beams.

Boosted Beams plug directly onto the board via an accessory port located under the trucks (2nd Gen Boards). This fully integrated design means you’ll never have to remove them. Simply charge the board and it’ll charge the lights too! When your board has power so does your lights.  They’re super bright too at a combined 600 lumens!

Ease of use

When you apply the regenerative brake via the Boosted Remote, the rear smart brake light will brighten. Alerting those behind you that you are about to stop or slowing down. Safety is a huge priority for Boosted and these lights certainly help. They’ve gone above and beyond making your Boosted experience that much more enjoyable!

Simply turn on the lights with two quick taps on your remote’s multi-button and you will have light! Two more quick taps and they’ll turn off. You can even set them to turn on automatically via the settings within the Boosted app! Riders can customize their settings, including brightness, blinking mode, and automatic turn on, based on their individual preferences.

The Boosted Beams are also very durable and are built with strong anodized aluminum. Which has been tested with vigour at the Boosted HQ. Designed to mimic real life conditions too. Therefore you can be safe in the knowledge they’ll handle whatever you dish out.

Boosted Beams are $199.00 and can be bought here!

Xenobots – Organic Robots

Xenobots are the first living machines assembled from cells from African clawed Frogs. They’ve turned them clawed frogs into tiny robots that move around under their own steam. Err….Skynet anyone?

Researchers in the US have one of the most successful creations that have two stumpy legs that propel it along it’s own ‘chest’. While another one has a hole n the middle. The US researchers turned it into a pouch so it can move around with miniature payloads.

“These are entirely new lifeforms. They have never before existed on Earth….They are living, programmable organisms.” Michael Levin, the director of the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts

While many robots are made out of metal and plastic traditionally, Levin and his colleagues are looking to making robots from biological tissues and see many benefits from doing so. However this sounds very scary. As when damaged living robots can heal their wounds. But when their task is done they fall apart, just as natural organisms which decay when they die.

These types of bots could be used to clean oceans, deliver drugs to the body or even remove plaque from artery walls.

“It’s impossible to know what the applications will be for any new technology, so we can really only guess,” Joshua Bongard, a senior researcher on the team at the University of Vermont.

Xenobots

The robots are also very very small, less than 1mm long in fact! They are designed by an evolutionary algorithm which runs on a supercomputer. It will generate random 3d configurations of 500 to 1,000 skin and heart cells. Each one is tested in a virtual environment too! The best ones are used to breed more designs, which they are too put to the test. One of the tests could be to see how far it moves when the heart cells are beating. Therefore as heart cells spontaneously contract and relax, they behave like miniature engines. Which will drive the robots along until the energy runs out. The cells/robots that have been created have enough energy in them to survive for 1 week to 10 days.

Eventually 100 generations of the cells were created before they picked the best of the best to build in the lab. The scientists even used tweezers and caustering tools to sculpt skin and heart cells from the embryos of African clawed frogs. An African Clawed frog is called Xenopus Laevis. Hence the term “Xenobots”

Researchers describe how they set the robots loose. Inside dishes of water to keep frog cells alive. The Xenobots crept along in straight lines. While other Xenobots would loop in circles or even team up! Levin said that the plan is to ultimately make them to scale. They can build blood vessels, nervous systems and sensory cells to form rudimentary eyes! Furthermore, what’s even more surprising is that if they built the Xenobot out of mammalian cells they could eventually live on dry land!

Future Generations

Future generations of the Xenobots could be given nervous systems and cognitive capabilities, which could raise ethical issues in the future.

Levin also said that the research is to achieve more than just little robots. It could help solve things like birth defects and age-related diseases. As they can start to learn more about biological structures, which could lead to ultimate control over growth and form. Thomas Douglas, a senior research fellow at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, said:

“There are interesting ethical questions about the moral status of these xenobots. At what point would they become beings with interests that ought to be protected? I think they’d acquire moral significance only if they included neural tissue that enabled some kind of mental life, such as the ability to experience pain….But some are more liberal about moral status. They think that all living creatures have interests that should be given some moral consideration. For these people, difficult questions could arise about whether these xenobots should be classified as living creatures or machines.”

(Guardian)

The research is funded by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s lifelong learning machines programme. The programme said that the research’s aim is to recreate biological learning processes in machines.

CockCam – Go Pro for your D

The CockCam is “the world’s first cock ring with a camera” created by UK-based sex toy company Julz. It’s basically a GoPro style camera strapped to a cock ring. It is described as a “a revolutionary sex toy that allows you to record all of your erotic moments at never seen before angles, store and view videos on your mobile device through the Secure Mobile App, taking your sexy home videos to the next level,”

It costs $159.95 and can even record in infared night vision, HD video up to 90mins at 1080p and 15 frames per second.

The CockCam promises that both the device and it’s accompanying app are secure. The website states that all the footage is stored on your mobile device and not on the app. The app is used to operate the camera and view the footage only.

Only question is, is this thing safe to use?

Therefore we had to find out! While we didn’t use one ourselves, the CockCam FAQ page does note that the camera can get warm during periods of prolonged use. (Will many guys even get that far? Boom Boom)

Super Nintendo World

All Nintendo fans rejoice! There is going to be a Super Nintendo World Park this summer ahead of the Olympic Games! It’s all thanks to Universal Studios Japan. They recently released a teaser which features a song from Galantis and Charlie XCX

It’s just a teaser, with mostly CGI, so you won’t get an idea of what the rides or areas look like. But nonetheless we’re still very very excited to see what’s in store!

However, there was a site that launched and this detailed some rather interesting things. Such as a real life Mario Kart experience and being able to travel around the park on Yoshi’s back. How cool would that be! We’re intrigued as to how we can throw shells and banana peels at people. As who wouldn’t want to try Mario Kart for real!? Just don’t make us super small!

Also available are “power up Bands” this looks like a wearable park pass, or may be even a fast pass? We’ll know more once the park opens in the summer. There’s also going to be Mario-Style blocks in real life, not too sure if you can start climbing them though!

Furthermore Bloomberg reported that the wearable band and the accompanying smartphone app will allow visitors to the park to battle bosses and collect coins! So as the video says, you’ll get to “play in real world this summer”

Don’t want to go all the way to Japan (although this may be the BEST place to experience it!) Future parks will also come to Hollywood, Japan and Singapore!

Duolingo

Lately Dev’s been learning Spanish and he’s been using an app called Duolingo!

You may have heard of it as it’s a famous language learning app that’s been around for some time now. It gets a lot of good reviews and for good reasoning too! Dev’s been praising it as it teaches you in a very good manner. Such as using short phrases and teaching you as if you were a child learning your language for the first time. Furthermore pairing up words to pictures too helps him and the user remember phrases and words!

You can learn Spanish, Latin, French, Japanese even Klingon! There’s loads of languages you can learn on Duolingo! Duolingo is an app which makes learning a language, fun, quick and very enjoyable!

Plus even better the app is free! (It is supported by ads, though you can pay for a premium version. As this will give you unlimited lives. If you get a question wrong you lose a life. Lose 5 lives and you have to wait 4 hrs to get a new set of lives or retake old lessons to gain yourself a life at a time. Furthermore it’ll take away those ads!)

How to learn

As stated earlier, Duolingo makes learning fun by pairing up words to the translated word or pictures to words. You could build up your vocabulary with one lesson a day! 34 hours of lessons is the equivalent to a semester of study at University level. Therefore if you stuck at it for sometime you could learn Spanish and cover enough words to go on holiday and speak Spanish in just a few weeks! The lessons aren’t that long either, lasting 5mins at a time, so you can learn for as long or as short as you like!

Other languages that are available are Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Latin, Russian and many many more!

StoryTerrace

Nostalgia. We all love it. But why? Well, Biography writing service StoryTerrace reveals the health benefits of nostalgia. Furthermore it describes why nostalgia plays a big part in us wanting to document our stories. It’s a unique blend, as it’s a unique combination of thoughts which are wrapped up in emotion. Sure you can be happy and that’s cool, but when you’re nostalgic, it involves the cognitive process of remembering. Which also has emotions attached to it. Which could, have some positive influence on our health!

The stories of our lives are made up of memories and the empotions that come with them. StoryTerrace is encouraging everyone to tap into nostalgia, Rutger Bruining, an authority on nostalgia, shares his views on why we should indulge in nostalgia a lot more:

Nostalgia makes us feel happy.

Studies have discovered that writing down a nostalgic event tends to result in positive emotions. While this can be enhanced by focusing on all the things we’ve gained in the past. Whilst turning a blind eye to the sad things we’ve gone through.

Nostalgia brings us together.

Researchers have referred nostlagia as a psychological resource. Since it can make us feel safe and loved, yet, when you start to remember past relationships and lost loved ones. A feeling of bittersweet can accompany nostalgia.  Therefore when we feel such strong emotions like nostalgia, we often seek comfort in those close to us.

Nostalgia warms our hearts AND our bodies.

In 2012, scientific studies discovered that listening to nostalgic music caused participants ambient temperature to rise. Therefore the nostalgia made them feel warmer. Which as a result made them more tolerant to the cold, when they asked to dip their hand in ice water. The study’s volunteers also felt more nostalgic on cold days. Since it helped their bodies regulate temperature.

Looking at the past gives us hope for the future.

Nostalgia can help us remind ourselves that there’s good in the world. As it helps us look to the future. As the volunteers were introduced to nostalgic words, in response to this they reported that they felt a bright future ahead.

Reminiscing supplies our lives with meaning.

Taking into account the above, according to a study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, nostalgia can help with people deal with the fear of mortality. By making individuals feel as though their lives are meaningful, nostalgia can help to overcome hardships and give our lives purpose.

StoryTerrace

“Emotionally connecting with your younger self helps you maintain a sense of continuity over time. Without memory, we would have no identity. The experiences you’ve had throughout your life help define who you are at any given moment. Here at StoryTerrace, we understand entirely that a sense of connectivity to our pasts is vital for our mental health and wellbeing—and preserving and reminiscing on our own life stories is so important to our happiness. Documenting memories and the emotions attached to them allow us to share and reminisce on our personal tales – and everyone has a story worth sharing.” CEO and Founder of StoryTerrace, Rutger Bruining
