The Grand Tour

The wait is over.

The three musketeers of the motoring world are back and in a big big way! It feels like a lifetime since we have seen Clarkson, Hammond and May on our screens, since their dramatic departure from the BBC 18 Months ago (By sheer luck Clarkson hasn’t technically been fired from the BBC, which is made note of in the 10min introduction to the show) by boy was it worth it!

The show starts off with Clarkson leaving an office building in London in dark gloomy rain and handing a security guard an ID badge (metaphor for the BBC?) with radio clippings of a person leaving a show layered underneath. We are then presented with Clarkson getting a plane and traveling over to a colourful and vibrant LA and it is here where Clarkson looks happier and free from the doom and gloom, a metaphor for the shackles of the BBC? The Grand Tour is on the internet and you can get away with a lot more on the internet and his controversial phrases won’t harm his employers as evidently as he would if he was still on the BBC.  Again this is made note of within the first 10mins and he makes a joke about tents and gypsies.

Small jabs to the BBC and Top Gear are found throughout the show, such as The American, Conversation Corner and ‘Your Name Here Corner’ one can only assume that ‘Your Name Here Corner’ is a nod to ‘Gambon’ on the Top Gear’s track. But besides all of the sly digs toward their former employers the show is essentially Top Gear but with a lot more money thrown at it $13.3M approximately per episode ($160M for 12 Episodes) and it is shown throughout the show just where that money is going. Just in the first 10 minutes alone the hordes of cars driving through the desert would have cost a lot of money

If you liked Top Gear with the three friends mucking around, you’ll love The Grand Tour It is essentially their old show in a fancy new packaging. If you didn’t like them before you probably won’t like them now. If you’re a new customer to The Grand Tour and Clarkson, Hammond and May, they’re like marmite and the show isn’t as much a motoring show but more of an entertainment show. So don’t expect to see intricate reviews of cars, but more of three guys having fun with cars. From what I have seen we’re in for a ride over the next 12 weeks and I cannot wait.

Westworld

Westworld is a Sci-Fi lovers dream! From JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, starring Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris, the show is based on a 1973 movie written and directed by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park/Lost World writer)

Now, the premise, is based on a future that isn’t too far from our own world right now, people go to a theme park (see the Michael Crichton link) where we as human’s get to live out our craziest fantasies through robots. Dress up as a cowboy and get into gun fights with cyborgs, go to strip clubs or even get drunk in the local robot bar (without actually getting drunk)

All seems fun right?

Well here’s where it all goes wrong. Said robots become too intelligent and are self aware, well, you can guess what happens next. The robots, go all terminator on the hosts and start causing trouble and fighting back against the humans.

AMAZING!

We can’t suggest this enough, when you can make sure you check it out!

Crossy Road!

Remember back in the good ol’ days we had Frogger? No?

Well if you’re too young to remember Frogger it was a simple game, basically you had to get the frog as far as possible up the field as you can, avoiding things like water and crocodiles.

Well Crossy Road has modernised that game with tons of different characters and added features like collecting coins and challenges that you have to complete. But this time with a chicken. Why did the chicken cross the road. Well you’re about to find out!

With over 100,000,000 downloads these guys must be doing something right and for one, we find it incredibly addictive! You always want to see if you can get just one step further! Plus the added bonus is that it is incredibly easy to just pick up and play!

Seaboard 5D!

As well as making music with the Roli App we have also been playing around with a different app available from the same company (Roli) the Seaboard 5D app!

Designed to accompany the Seaboard Rise hardware from Roli the app allows you to also make music without it and create beats on the move!

Recreating the possibilities that are available on the Seaboard RISE, you can shape sounds using the 5 Dimensions of Touch: Strike, Glide, Slide, Press and Lift, with the use of 3D touch also there are so many possibilities!  So not only will it make your iPhone/iPad a sound engine for the Seaboard RISE you’ll also turn it into a really powerful musical instrument!
It’s as easy as pick up and play so anyone of any ability will be able to make tunes within minutes, laid out like a piano keyboard it is not daunting either when you first look at it. Instead of a regular keyboard layout though it is like a continues set of “keywaves” that you can stroke of glide across. For example you can bend the pitch by gliding your fingers across the keys or modulate sounds by moving your finger up and down a keywave.
