Lightline

29th May 2018/in Gadgets / Tech /by billywright

Ever almost been ran over when not checking the road whilst on your smartphone? Well for the clumsy and daredevils out there a pilot project in Bodegraven,Holland is trialing a system called +Lightlines which fit snuggly in between the cracks in the paving bricks of a pavement/road.

It’s basically a bright laser strip which is coloured either red (stop) or (green) so your candy crush marathon can continue whilst you do less important things like looking out for your life.

At the moment they are only covering one intersection near some schools, but they’ll become widely available if it catches on. It all seems kinda cool to us but the Dutch Road Safety organisation WN stating that these devices “reward bad behaviour”

Rooms

As the Arcade first and foremost is a hotel and comes with a wide range of rooms to suit your needs. The Arcade Hotel caters for singles, couples and groups and they all have their own unique gaming related nickname. For example a single person room is titled 1 Player. The rooms that are available if you’re a 1 Player sort of person are: “Love Shack” and “Highlander”. Whilst if you’ve got a tag team partner and you’ll be able to pick up a 2 Player room: “Luke and Leia” For the 4 Player teams out there you can pick up a room called “The Fantastic Four” or “Double Impact” Each coming with their own unique twist.

There are other gaming spaces available to visitors located next to the cafe and bar. While our rooms are very cool and we could have spent hours playing all of our favourite games in there. Arguably this was one of the coolest areas of the hotel.

Arcade Hotel Gaming Lounge

In this area there is literally every retro console that you can think of available to you. Not only that there is a HUGE gaming library. (The whole wall) That you can access with some high quality gaming classics to play. We could have spent months in that room alone!

No Money No Problem!?

13th January 2017/in Gadgets, Gadgets / Tech /by billywright

A homeless guy asks for change and for most of us (even if you don’t like to admit it) we will say “Sorry Mate I have no change” – well that excuse may soon be null and void.

A company from Amsterdam called N=5 have created a jacket that has NFC technology on it that allows you to pay using contactless. So if you do wish to donate to the homeless and you have your card on you, all you have to do is tap your card on to their jacket and voila you’ve donated.

The donations are one Euro per donation and the money can only be redeemed by a user through an official homeless shelter in exchange for a place to sleep or eat.

An employee of N=5 spoke to indy100 and said:

“[Firstly], these days we tend to carry little or no cash at all…..Secondly, most people would like to help the homeless, but they feel that giving money basically goes to supporting addictions. So, we wondered: how we can make it easier for people to help others who need it?

“ The only way to redeem the money received this way is through one of the official homeless shelters. The money never goes to the homeless person as cash, but is always redeemed in kind. This way, it can be spent on a place to sleep, a shower or food. The homeless person can also choose to spend it on self-improvement, like vocational training courses or even in building up savings.”

It’s only in a trial period at this moment in time N=5 hopes to refine the product and get it out on mass to those that need it.

Body Worlds – Amsterdam

4th November 2016/in Entertainment, Events & Activities /by billywright

Nick Bright recently travelled to Amsterdam with his other half and discovered a really cool exibhition called Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS: The Happiness Project. Basically it’s an exhibition which shows off Humans without our skin.

This particular event that is running right now in Amsterdam is called The Happiness Project and tells a story of our body and the impact in which the feeling of happiness has on our health.

These bodies that are on show aren’t plastic models either they are real anatomical specimens of real human bodies on show which highlights how complex our bodies really are.

The ground-breaking BODY WORLDS exhibitions – also known as Körperwelten – have already attracted over 40 million visitors world wide.

Please see below for more information on the Body Worlds Happiness Project (Video is in Dutch but you can put closed captions on, click the settings wheel and then auto translate it into English)
