Facebook fighting Revenge Porn!

Facebook will use photo-matching technology to fight against revenge porn by identifying them with the tool and then removing the content.

Specially trained members of Facebook’s Community Operations team will be in charge of reviewing images and suspending accounts. Additionally Facebook users can also notify Facebook if they are suspect that a graphic image has been shared without permission by clicking report on the image.

In April 2015 it was made an offence in England and Wales to share private sexual images or video without the subject’s consent.

The Facebook CEO described in a Q&A to allow people to “capture a thought, what you’re thinking or feeling in kind of its ideal and perfect form in your head, and be able to share that with the world”.

According to Business insider this interface is said to be unveiled at Facebook’s developer conference in April, alongside a drone, an augmented reality device and a medical project being led by “an interventional cardiologist from Stanford with expertise in early-stage medical device development”.

Episode 181 Facebook’s Take A Break

Facebook Live Audio!?

As like most social media platforms in 2016 Facebook put a lot of time and effort into “LIVE” broadcasting. As of now the social media platform is launching LIVE AUDIO for a select few publishes and content creators with plans to open up the feature to a wider audience in 2017.

The audio only service could bring podcasts into peoples news feeds just like live video does for video. This could potentially help those in areas where broadband and internet speeds is incredibly poor or to those that require less heavy data efficient media.

Facebook sees LIVE AUDIO for other uses such as semi professional stage for events like book readings and interviews coupled with the services comments section this could create incredible amounts of creative content. As of yet the audio only live service is only open to the BBC World Service, Talk Radio’s LBC (Leading Britains Conversation) Book Publisher Harper Collins and authors Adam Grant and Britt Bennett.

Android users can keep listening to a LIVE AUDIO broadcast whilst doing other things though iOS users have to stay within the Facebook App.

US asks for Social Media Accounts?!

If you want to travel to the US under the visa waiver program you will now have an optional question to fill out in the ESTA form. (Electronic System for Travel Authorization, basically a form which you have to fill out to get into the United States)

It reads: “Please enter information associated with your online presence,” along with a drop-down menu for various social media outlets and a text box for the username associated with each one.

Reportedly this was introduced to help identify Terrorist threats and was suggested way back in June 2016. It has just passed the DepDepartment of Homeland Security has approved the controversial proposal on December 19th.

There has been a lot of worry about this of course due to privacy risks and there is a worry that discrimination would “fall hardest on Arab and Muslim communities, whose usernames, posts, contacts and social networks will be exposed to intense scrutiny.”

Facebook Copies SnapChat AGAIN

Facebook have a tendency to look at Snapchat for inspiration as shown by Mashable:

Mashable has confirmed Facebook have essentially copied Snapchat – AGAIN. They are rolling out a navigation bar for their new video feed for live video/video on demand for the pages that you follow.

This new video feed is accessed by clicking a play button at the bottom of the app which will be to the right of the news feed icon, which will bring up this new feed and this new navigation bar which looks just like Snapchat. But its not Snapchat. Ok.

Facebook confirmed to Mashable on Friday that this new Video tab has been rolling out ever so slowly since April but have increased efforts to get it in the faces of more of its users (Currently on in the US)

This new feed has a notifications panel which shows up videos that are currently live from the pages that you are following, yet if you scroll Facebook shows you some suggested videos that you may be interested in.

Again much like snapchat you exit a pages video by tapping or dragging down a button in the top left hand corner of the screen – and scroll left to right along the navigation bar, which has circles with your pages logo’s in them – sounds like Snapchat to you?

Mashable reported that Facebook have been testing ways to share photo’s which have filters on them.

A week earlier Mashable reported that they were testing a “Messenger Day” feature where you can add stickers to photo’s which expire within 24 hours.

Earlier this week too Mashable have reported that Facebook have been adding geofilters to photo’s which have frames around them.

Business Insider reported too that Facebook have been working with media partners to create a system similar to Snapchats Discover.

Do Facebook just want to become Facebook?
