In this episode of Worth An Hour we’re taking a look at Zombie Army 4: Dead War!

Hitler’s hordes are back for more in this spine-chilling shooter from the makers of Sniper Elite 4! Abominable occult enemies, epic weapons and a harrowing new campaign for 1-4 players await in 1940s Europe, as you fight to save humankind from undead Armageddon!

Graphics

First up is the graphics:

This game looks FANTASTIC, the graphics are crisp, beautiful and gritty. The levels look very realistic and really bring a sense of Zombie devastation to life. You can really imagine what it must smell like.

Which brings me on to the blood in this game. There’s lots of it. This game is not for the faint hearted, your innocent grandma or kids. Bodies explode, heads disintegrate and limbs get torn to smithereens.

It’s gorey, sticky and absolutely amazing. Just what you want from a Zombie game.

Sounds Design

The sound design is brilliantly done, each of the guns sound brutal, especially the chain gun, a lot of fun to use mowing down hordes of zombies with that!

Plus the special moves sound even better, such as the slowing down of time to get juuuust the right shot on, really makes you feel as if time is slowing down.

Zombies sound just how you’d expect them too, with an added umph, just to make you feel a little bit uneasy. This is especially true in level 2 with the sacrifice it just sounds scary, makes you feel very uneasy!

The X-Ray sounds are just as gruesome, you hear every flesh wound, every organ squish and every skull crack. You seriously see yourself sitting there going – cooooor in that type of amazement where you don’t wanna watch but you can’t take your eyes off of it.

The character quips in the game are also there, as with many Rebellion games, the voice acting is incredible and there funny one liners are there too! Stand still for too long and the characters will give you a funny quip to get a move on!

Gameplay

Last up is gameplay

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is split up into 3 different modes, campaign, weekly events and horde.

Horde

Horde is very very fun, you take on a horde of zombies in waves, and as with many Rebellion games, the level gets bigger as you progress further into the waves, and as you do so, so do the difficulty and the amount of zombies increases.

But what I especially liked is the fact that you have to conserve ammo! There’s ammo crates that you always have to run back to when you run out of ammo, this makes it a little bit more realistic and that much more challenging!

I got to try it in single player mode and multiplayer mode, unfortunately i didn’t get to play it with a full squad as I was playing a review copy of the game but I image how much fun this game will be with 4 people as I really enjoyed it with just 2!

Upgrades

You can upgrade your guns to make taking down the enemies that much easier and there’s special moves which will help you out of a hole if you need it. Such as the brain buster for the pistol. Slow down time, pick your targets and then take them out. These can be upgraded as you progress through the game to kill more enemies.

Or slow down time with a rifle and pick your perfect spot!

Epic Melee’s are LOTS of fun too! These can also be changed, I got to have a go of the machete and electric fist.

Or get Get 10 melee kills and you get something called an epic take down. These are short cut scenes which show BRUTAL takedowns which change depending on what you have in your hand. Stomp on some heads, execute some zombie ass and that’s just two choices!

Comedy

The game is also very quirky throughout the different levels there’s different little things you can interact with that can make you laugh. Such as using a typewriter, washing your hands, use a vending machine or even play draughts!

X-Ray kills are also back! These kills are epic, if you time things just right, the game will go into a cut scene and follow the bullet into the enemy…..showing you everything! However I managed to shoot someone in the d**k. Twice.

However, on the third attempt I got a head shot!

The Zombies

The zombie’s themselves aren’t no pushover….in a crowd of them anyway….you’ll soon find yourself getting surrounded and eventually dying, so make your shots in a tactical manner! You can run away from them but they’ll always find a way to find you!

The bosses even more so, they just won’t leave you alone! There’s always a specific way to kill a zombie boss, the two I’ve tried, I had to shoot something on their back, and they have heavy guns too. Defeat them. You get the gun. Just got to defeat them first.

Throughout the levels there’s various different tasks you got to complete too, it’s not as simple as going from A to B. Which I love! I had to get fuel for a boat, cogs for a bridge mechanism all the while avoiding getting eaten by Zombies. Did I mention you only get to use your handgun whilst carrying things? – Yeah, that makes it 10 times as harder. Good luck.

Stomping on Zombie corpses allows you to get various different pick ups such as ammo or health, which is vital in this game! Always carry a medi pack!

Upgrades

You get various different perks in the game such as the offensive which allow you to (review footage here) and the defensive which one of them allows you a second chance at life. Get ‘killed’ and then you stay on the ground for a while, shoot and kill a zombie and you get a second chance at life. You got lucky….only once though. Die again and that’s it you’re done. Sorry.

Finally you get ranked throughout the game, that’s throughout horde, campaign and weekly events. Increase your rank, increase your upgrade points to upgrade your guns, unlock various perks and then upgrade the perks as you rank up too!

Campaign

The two campaign levels I played were very very good. The first level was ok, I see that more of a introductory level to how the game is and the game mechanics, as boy oh boy did things go up a notch in level 2. I was dying so much. My health was depleted and I had no midi-kits rookie mistake. So ended up just running away from them for the most part and then turning back to shoot the horde of Zombies chasing me.

The 2nd level had this crazy zombie shark too which was something to behold, although I didn’t want to wait around too long to see if it would come back and bite my ass.

The story is great and the characters keep you entertained and interested in where things are going throughout, definitely worth having a play through, especially with some friends!

Weekly Events

These are a beautiful twist on the Zombie Army 4: Dead War campaign. The weekly event that I played had various different tasks to complete. One of them was complete the first campaign level only using a rifle and a pistol. This made things very difficult! But I loved the twist on it and it brought an extra layer of replay-ability to it.

Just another way to keep things fresh and I loved it!

I’m really looking forward to the different weekly events that Rebellion are going to put on, I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on them as it keeps things fresh and alive – unlike most things in Zombie Army 4: Dead War.

Overall thoughts

In conclusion this game is TONS of fun, I mean I only played it briefly with 4 people and that was very enjoyable. Get 3 other friends involved and you got a party on your hands.

Zombie Army 4:Dead War is without doubt one of THE BEST zombie games I have played in YEARS! Hats off to rebellion for creating a stellar multiplayer game that doesn’t get stale or boring or repetitive. There’s a reason why Rebellion are renowned for creating great shooting games and great zombie games at that.

I really really enjoyed it and cannot wait to see how much I can upgrade my character and their weapons.

Gonna have to pick up a squad now and go kick some zombie ass!

Pick it up and play it for many many hour, you won’t regret it!

Blood and Truth is the PSVR all fans of the Getaway (remember that?) have been waiting for. It’s an explosive action movie blockbuster esque game, set in London.

A crime-ridden London underworld. You play as an elite soldier called Ryan Marks. Your mission? To save your family from a ruthless criminal empire! Sign us up! (Only in video game world though!)

The action is breathless and a little over the top, but that’s what makes it so much fun! You can drive, parachute and even rappel across the city! The story is packed with twists and turns, guaranteed to keep you interested for hours! What makes it all that much better? You get a unique soundtrack that’s like a classical movie soundtrack! Not only that Grime music is also a sound bed in this game.

You can play with either a Dualshock 4 controller or two Playstation Move Motion Controllers. Our reviewer, Mr Midas, played it with a Dualshock 4 and found it a little hard. So we’re suggesting using the Motion Controllers if you have them. Overall we found this game to definitely be worth an hour of your time. Just make sure your VR legs are well and truly worn in. You’re going to need them!

John Wick 3: Parabellum STUNTS!

John Wick is back and he is badder than ever, we liked the first instalment. Also we loved the second instalment and we absolutely LOVED the third one. It was full of action from start to finish, incredible amounts of fun! The third instalment John Wick 3: Parabellum is out in cinemas and it looks incredibly cool. I mean John Wick chasing down a bad guy on a horse, you can’t get much cooler than that!

Plot for John Wick: Parabellum is below:

In this third instalment of the adrenaline fuelled action franchise, super-assassin John Wick (Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn. (Rotten Tomatoes)

Our very own Marcus Bronzy recently attended a special event set up by the guys at Lionsgate. But what was it doing? Well, there’s lots of stunts in John Wick 3 and as a result lots of action. We wanted in on the action. So Paul Swift (A very cool and very talented stuntman) took Marcus around in a Mustang and showed him what it’s like to be John Wick. Just like the movie, it was a lot of fun and we think we’re going to leave the stunts to Paul.

Rage 2 Wasteland Superhero

Is Rage 2 worth an hour?

This is “Worth an Hour” where we ask whether something is “Worth an hour of your time” – today we are taking a look at the highly anticipated Rage 2!

Rage 2’s Plot

Rage 2 is set around 30 years from 2011’s Rage. The game is described as post-post apocalyptic. So, the world that we all knew from RAGE 1 has changed slightly. If we remind ourselves that in the first Rage, about 120 years prior to the events in the first game the earth was hit by a massive rock. Wiping the majority of mankind out. Leaving behind a wasteland, littered with factions, bandits and mutants.

Skip forward to 2019 and Rage 2, the wasteland is now booming with life. While there is the dusty deserts and wrecked ruins. Living, breathing areas such as swaps and colourful forests are apparent. There is life starting to emerge from the devastation.

Walker

You take on Walker. A special kind of ranger. SPOILER ALERT! Well, it’s in the first mission and it’s a tutorial mission, so can it be classed as a spoiler? Anyway, Aunt Prowley takes him on and raises him after the death of his parents. She get’s stabbed by General Cross. You then find yourself in an area where a holographic version of Prowley informs you of special powers that you possess.

Walker is one of the last remaining rangers in the wasteland of Rage 2. Walker is an Arkist. An Arkist is one of a select few who, from the old world, was frozen in freezers before the huge rock hit. He was infected with Nanotrites. A Nanobot which prolongs his life and gives him special abilities.

The Nanotrites are also responsible for the main villains in Rage 2. The Authority and General Cross. The Authority aren’t a pushover either. They’re highly equipped and have their sights set on the Nanotechnology to have complete control over the wasteland.

It is now your job as Walker to prevent General Cross and the authority from making everyone’s life a misery. You must take down the dictatorship of General Cross.

Although Rage 2 continues the story of Rage 1, I, personally don’t think that it is necessary for a play through. It’s a completely different story.

Huge thanks To GameGator for the breakdown of the plot, you can find a very impressive write up of Rage 2 by clicking here!

Graphics

Firstly the game looks FANTASTIC, I played this on a Playstation 4 slim and not the Pro, on a 55” HDTV and it looks beautiful and despite the wasteland that it is set in, the colours really do POP!

The graphics are incredible and the level of detail is something to be in awe of. But what sets Rage 2 apart from the rest of the shooters out there is the sheer colour that is in this game.

Think Mad Max went crazy and start playing with your little brothers finger painting kit and got luminous paint EVERYWHERE. That’s Rage 2. Think Coachella and the 70’s had a baby. That’s Rage 2.

There’s lots of luminous and florescent pinks, blue’s, purples, it’s everywhere and it’s a breath of fresh air. Especially when you activate the game’s OVERDRIVE feature. (Which you get by eliminating members of the authority in quick succession, which gains you combos, get enough combos to build up the overdrive meter and boom you’re like a kid in a candy shop after drinking 2L of soda. Your health get’s a slight increase, which increases as you go up the upgrade tree.) The whole screen gets colourful and you’re off wrecking havoc like there’s no tomorrow. – Though despite the vast amounts of colour in this game, there is a lot of gore!

Characters

Now understanding all the different characters within the game can be a little difficult for some. But what I especially liked in Rage 2 is that each time a character of relevance was introduced to you, before they tell you what they want from you, there’s a very short breakdown from Walker himself. Detailing who this person is and why they’re important.

Where to next?

Rage 2 is NOT linear. It is much like Grand Theft Auto. That’s not just because it is open world. It’s because there are your main missions which you could complete and be done with it. But, Rage 2 kind of forces you to complete side missions to increase your Walkers level before you move on to the next main mission. Therefore increasing the life of the game. There’s no rushing this one!

There’s also a range of projects that each of the three main characters give you that also need to be levelled up before you move on. Projects are perks that you can upgrade Walker with. They can help upgrade things like damage, how many grenades you can carry or how accurate your Wingstick is.

Rage 2 does NOT hold your hand, you have got to figure things out by yourself. That’s how I found it. The missions are listed above on kind of like a mini-map/compass which details where the next mission is and how far you are away from it. Plus along the way you will encounter things that aren’t listed on the map. They’re simply shown as a “?” A great way of promoting discoverability and not just rushing through from point A to point B.

Now, as I said previously Rage 2, does NOT hold your hand. Which is a great thing and makes playing this game more rewarding. On an early mission you have got to go back to the Winner’s Lounge after finishing a race. I found myself asking myself “Where on earth is the WINNERS LOUNGE?!” It weren’t until I wandered around aimlessly, opening the map a few times that I found it. Whether or not that’s indicative of how good of a gamer I am. I’ll let you decide that one.

Rage 2: Bosses

Speaking of how good you are as a gamer. Bosses are HUGE, MEAN and UGLY! They usually take form of monsters and they can be quite difficult to kill. I think it’s all down to how good you are as a gamer. I didn’t find them too difficult to kill. It was more the little minions around them that were more difficult. I got my rear end handed to me on more than one occasion.

As I did when trying to take over various strongholds, I made the mistake of trying to take out a higher difficulty of enemy. (The difficulty is listed before you decide to take them on, as kind of a warning to say. You may want to think twice about this) – I did find myself giving up on more than one occasion here. Sorry John Cena.

Rage 2: Vehicles

Lastly Vehicles. You will be using them a lot! You can fast travel. But I think it’s better to use a massive monster truck or a gun enabled car. It’s just so much fun to drive around in a barren wasteland and doing whatever you want! Point to note. Use your nitrous. I didn’t realise there was a boost button for a while and was wondering why the car feels so SLOW.

Rage 2: In Conclusion

Overall RAGE 2 is definitely worth an hour of your time. Many many many hours of your time in fact. It’s fantastic, frantic, hectic and crazy. But my god it’s insanely fun to play. I cannot stress that enough. It is a breath of fresh air and a blast to play.

Pick Rage 2 up this week. You will not regret it!

John Wick Hex

A John Wick game has been announced to be in development! It’s a strategy game and it’s called John Wick Hex. It’s going to be available on Windows PC/Mac via the Epic Games Store and it’s also coming to consoles!

Good Shepard Entertainment announced that the upcoming game John Wick Hex, is being lead by game designer Mike Bithell. (Thomas Was Alone/Volume)

Be like John

Good Shepard Entertainment revealed via press release that John Wick Hex will be a ‘a fast-paced, action-oriented strategy game that makes you think and strike like, John Wick’.

Created in close cooperation with the creative and stunt teams behind the films, John Wick Hex is fight-choreographed chess brought to life as a video game, capturing the series’ signature gun fu style while expanding its story universe.

Players must choose every action and attack they make, while considering their immediate cost and consequences. Every move in John Wick Hex feels like a scene from the movies, and every fight contributes to your progress on the job and requires precise strategic thinking.

Realism

The story of the game is an original one, where ammo is finite and realistically simulated. So be conservative with your ammo, no spray and pray! Whilst you make your way through the game there will be chances to unlock new weapons, suit options and locations. Whilst these will change, dependent on how you play.

So far it has been revealed John Wick actors Ian McShane and Lance Reddick are involved. Whilst we hope many other actors join the cast of the game later!

However, there is no word yet on when the game will be released, but we hope we don’t have to wait too long!
