Netflix Gave Away 83 Year Subscription!

Netflix recently gave away an 83 year subscription! Yes you read that right, an 83 YEAR subscription. So basically you’ll never have to pay for Netflix again. To promote the new Charlize Theron Film The Old Guard, they held a gaming tournament. With the prize being the basically lifelong subscription.

To win, all you needed to do was to be amazing at the original video game of The Old Guard. The task? To beat everyone and by the number 1 gamer by the end of a weekend a couple of weeks ago.

Netflix described the prize as an ‘immortal’ subscription of 1,000 months. Which is 83 and a third years.

The game was a ‘browser-based, top-down beat em up”. You’ll be  playing as Charlize’s character, Andromache of Scythia.

Originally, in the comics, Andromache was the oldest in the gang of immortals. She uses a double-bladed axe called the Labrys to hack and slash her way to victory.

The Netflix film is about immortality, so even if you die in the game, you’ll just move slower, which would have made it difficult to get the top score.

While the competition has now ended, you can still enjoy the game! So, go ahead and play it, why not!

The game is available here!

The game will be available here from 4pm today (Friday 17th July). Good luck.

The Witcher on Netflix

The Witcher on Netflix

Well I don’t know about you but The Witcher looks FANTASTIC! We all know about the amazing games that are based on the same book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. But this is the first time we’ve seen a live action adaptation. We have to say that we are very very excited for what’s to come.

For those unawares The Witcher is an upcoming fantasy drama web series that’s created by Lauren Schmidt for Netflix. (Who recently revealed that she’s planning 7 seasons!)

Games Radar recently published an interview that Schmidt did with their sister publication SFX magazine and told them that they’re planning to set up stories that can capture audiences interest for years at a time.

“We don’t have a second season yet – God willing we will – but right now it’s just about, ‘How do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?….The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to.”

Nothing is better than a long story arc, gives us time to breathe and we can connect with the characters more. So we’re all for it!

The Witcher Plot

The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia. He is a monster hunter who traverses an unnamed continent, hunting down lots of different monsters and creatures. All with a HUGE sword! The Geralt saga has spanned five books, released between 2008 and 2017. While the author (Sapkowski) has also written other short stories which also take place in the same realm as Geralt.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, THE WITCHER is an epic tale of fate and family. The story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

The trailer was dropped at Lucca Comics and Games 2019 as a part of a special panel with The Witcher cast (Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra) and Showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich!

The Witcher begins streaming on Netflix on December 20th 2019.

Lord of the Rings TV show

Lord of the Rings fans UNITE! Amazon Studios has announced that the filming location for the upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel show. It will be in New Zealand, which is where all of the other films have been shot. So expect to see some rather familiar settings.

Showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay released the following statement on the decision:

As we searched for the location in which we could bring to life the primordial beauty of the Second Age of Middle-earth, we knew we needed to find somewhere majestic, with pristine coasts, forests, and mountains, that also is a home to world-class sets, studios, and highly skilled and experienced craftspeople and other staff. And we’re happy that we are now able to officially confirm New Zealand as our home for our series based on stories from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. We are grateful to the people and the government of New Zealand and especially Auckland for supporting us during this pre-production phase. The abundant measure of Kiwi hospitality with which they have welcomed us has already made us feel right at home, and we are looking forward to deepening our partnership in the years to come.

Lord of the Rings wouldn’t be Lord of the Rings without New Zealand would it?!

According to the press release “Pre-production has started, and production on the series will begin in Auckland in the coming months.”

Star Trek Discovery

Star Trek Discovery: A new Tv Show

Star Trek Discovery is a tv show that’s set 10 years before the events of the Star Trek original series that was on television sets back in the day! The show sees the united Klingon waging war with the United Federation of planets, involving the crew of the USS Discovery.

The show was originally created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman for CBS All Access before being picked up by Netflix. It’s the first Star Trek TV show since the most recent showing Star Trek: Enterprise which concluded in 2005. The plot follows an entirely different timeline than that of the famous feature films that have hit cinemas recently.

While Season 1 is available to watch right now, a second season was agreed and ordered in October 2017. Which is said to come to fruition on our screens January 2019.

If that tickles your fancy Season 2 is on the way:

It certainly looks like a lot of fun and we cannot wait to check it out ourselves! We love a Sci-Fi here at How To Kill An Hour. Therefore we will be binging on Season 1 in preparation for the second season! We can’t be left behind!
