Best Bits Of E3 2018 Part 2

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

A lot more information about Super Smash Bros Ultimate was shown at this years E3! By a lot, we mean A LOT! Nintendo spent a good portion of their conference going into great detail about their upcoming AAA title. Firstly, we got an announcement of a release date December 7th 2018. The roster is one of the biggest announcements with the roster including 50 fighters. Yes 50! The reason behind this huge roster?

Well the roster includes every single fighter from the Smash Bro’s series history, including Ryu, Pac Man, Snake, Sonic, Duck Hunt, Pikachu, Zelda, Link, Kirby and many many more! Yet it’s important to note that Super Smash Bros Ultimate also supports Gamecube controllers and amiibo.

Most noteworthy, the gameplay has had a slight tweak, in the fact that the most significant change is during 1vs1 matches the damage has been increased to slightly speed up the pace. Furthermore, dodge spamming is no more, meaning that each time you dodge, both on the ground and in the air, if done in quick succession the effectiveness of it decreases. (Games Radar)

Fortnite for the Nintendo Switch

Since everyone is playing it! The popular battle royale game that has swept the world and set many records. The one video game that Drake played live to hundreds of thousands of people. Yes that one. Fortnite. Fortnite is now available to play on the Nintendo Switch and is for the grand price of FREE. So, go ahead and check it out now on the Nintendo E-Store. Also, you can even play against other gamers on Xbox One, PC and iOS.

V Rally 4

V Rally 4 was announced for the Switch too!  As well as coming to all the other major console makers, the game is sliding on to Nintendo’s popular handheld come home console.

Available September 2018 (Switch at a later date) there are a total of 5 disciplines that users get to race with: Rally, taking on the clock in some of the most extreme conditions in the most exotic of places. Extreme-Khana, race and drift along the most crazy of obstacle courses. Hill Climb, race to the top of the most steepest hills in the most powerful of vehicles.

Yet, the other two disciplines were shown off in the announcement trailer, V- Rally Cross and Buggy! V Rally Cross requires players to race at intense speeds with other racers on tracks that vary between dirt and asphalt! While those choosing to race in buggies will be battling other racers on even more treacherous, hazardous and spectacular courses! (Gamasutra)

Strange Brigade

Strange Brigade takes users to places that they have never been before. The Plot? Well, simply there are four remote corners of the British Empire. What these remote corners entails no one knows as the shadows linger at their deepest. Who knows about these places the best? The servants of The Crown do and there are some supernatural beings that exist in these places!

Strange Brigade takes users on an exotic safari, it’s dangerous and few dare to even embark on such an adventure. Why? As few return! As you go along this treacherous safari, you encounter civilisations that have once been forgotten by society, yet they’re fantastic within their own right, all while being shrouded in mystery! Go on adventures that take you to dark tombs and battle unimaginable evil! You take on one of four adventurers or explorers.

Each of the characters available to you have their own special powers, weapons and even tactics! The campaign takes you across a 1930’s era landscape and play with up to 4 friends along this action packed safari! However, as with many exotic plots, be aware of fighting armies of mythological characters that have been unleashed by an ancient Egyptian ruler: Seteki The Witch Queen. She’s so evil she has been wiped from hieroglyphs! So beware! To help you along the way there are secret caves around the safari. Why are these so special? Well within these caves there’s buried riches. Find these to help you along the way!

Arcas Path

Arcas Path looks so so beautiful! A VR only title from Rebellion and developed by Dream Reality Interactive is due for release later this year. The game will be available on PS VR, Steam VR, Oculus Rift/Go and Gear VR. While not much is known about this game it is described as:

In a beautifully abstract yet enchanting world, a new path lies ahead of a girl. Skill, instinct and awareness will guide her through the rich labyrinth and its dangers. To return home and to reality, she must tear down the walls of Arca.

As a result of how good this looks and we know very little, we’re very intrigued. Therefore we cannot wait to learn more about this one! (Metro)

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is returning and the brand new title is called Shadow Of The Tomb Raider! It’s scheduled to be released on September 14th on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Square Enix are calling this installation of Tomb Raider a “climactic finale” and “the end of the beginning”. While it most likely will not be the end of Tomb Raider entirely, we may see a “Logan” esque type Tomb Raider games in the future? Shadow of The Tomb Raider is also said to be one of the most difficult Tomb Raider games yet, with director Daniel Chayer-Bisson stating to Tech Radar that:

“……I would say, the most difficult Tomb Raider of all the Tomb Raiders. That is important because this is a more experienced Lara….going to be bigger, it’s going to be harder, and that tomb shows the first ever puzzle you’ll solve and it’s very difficult.

Checkpoints are not far away from when you die, so having these gruesome deaths make you feel bad to fail, and do everything to stay alive.”

Yet, Bisson also stated that Lara’s iconic dual pistols won’t be making an appearance either and she will have to rely on her bow and arrow! (Tech Radar)

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

This game is FREE and is coming June 26th, it’s from Square Enix and is set in the Life is Strange universe, but Captain Spirit will be a self contained story within. Yet the decisions that are made in this story will affect the upcoming sequel. (Life is Strange 2) It will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit follows a young boy who has incredible talent of storytelling. The Young Hero Chris has a passion for superheroes and as it seems, he is a super hero himself. So, it is up to you to follow Chris along his story as he escapes reality under his alter ego the Awesome Captain Spirit!  (Polygon)

Just Cause 4

One other major title is getting a sequel and that’s Just Cause 4! Gameplay was shown during the presser from Square Enix and it showed a lot more than what was highlighted at the Microsoft Presser!

The open world giant will focus this time round on massive destruction, crazy explosions and more player creativity. Other things will come into play and start to affect a players experience during their time with Just Cause 4. For example, the new outing from Avalanche Studios will include bouts of extreme weather. Like their namesake, blizzards, as well as playing tag team with storms that include lightning and tornados!

Famous for it’s out of it’s world physics and craziness, Just Cause 4 will also allow players to get wild with their fighting. Users will have the ability to use grapples and boosters! However, this time round there is much more choice. For example one of them will allow players to bind vehicles and enemies together before catapulting them into the sky! Just Cause 4 is set for release on December 4th and is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. (Polygon)

Marvels Spider-Man

Insomniac’s Marvels Spider-Man was shown off at E3 this year and it impressed the E3 crowd and those watching at home a like. Spiderman is an action and adventure open world game exclusive to PS4. The gameplay trailer that was shown off this year did not disappoint. It looks just like a movie and the devs over at Insomniac have done a wonderful job of seamlessly transitioning between gameplay and cutscenes. Also revealed was a whole host of villains that Spidey will be taking on too! Villains include Electro, Rhino, Scorpion and Vulture. Consequently, all of whom escape from the maximum security prison that we see in the trailer above. Hype has been huge for this game and for all the right reasons too! It’s shaping up to be a heavy hitter when it releases on 7th September 2018 as an exclusive title for PS4. (The Verge)

Cyberpunk 2077

Developer CD Projekt Red describe Cyberpunk 2077 as an ““an open world, narrative-driven role-playing game” so essentially this game, as beautiful as it looks, is a first person role playing game. A first person role playing game that is also open world and narrative driven. We are liking the sound of this already! Fallout fans listen up! As even though the game is in first person, the game is said to offer players, plenty of chances to see what your character looks like. Pointing out that the game is a First Person RPG and not an FPS.

We are liking the route that this game is taking, making sure to emphasise the fact that it’s not just a shooter and it seems like there is a HUGE focus on storytelling. That’s what we got from the trailer, the trailer looked very movie like and we cannot wait to get our hands on it!

Users are playing as “V”, who is a “hired gun on the rise” within the Cyberpunk violent metropolis, Night City. Judging from the trailer we are getting a Matrix/Ready Player One vibe to the game. Going more indepth on the character customization, CD Projekt Red promises a “robust character creator” which will allow platers to choose things such as gender, appearance class and even their characters backgrounds. However, choose wisely as the choices that you make now, will affect and influence how the game plays out.

Yet much like regular RPG’s players are encouraged to interact with the various residents of Night City. Users do this via a dialogue system, which in turn will navigate the Cyberpunk 2077 narrative. With CD Prokekt Red stating that “difficult decisions will ripple through the entire game” (Polygon)

Control

Remedy have a cool new game on the way and Sony debuted it this week at E3! It’s called Control and as you’ve guessed, it revolves around your character controlling the environment around her with her shape shifting gun! It’s due for release in 2019 and it looks great! Although there isn’t much information available it certainly looks super interesting! The game is made by the same team that made Alan Wake and Quantum Break so we’re definitely excited to learn more! The official press release for the game gives a little bit more detail:

After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, players will take on the role of Jesse Faden, the new Director struggling to regain Control. This sandbox-style, gameplay-driven experience built on the proprietary Northlight engine challenges players to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments while fighting through the deep and mysterious worlds Remedy is known and loved for.

Death Standing

Death Standing is a new game from Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and it looks absolutely WILD! Firstly, the game looks beautiful! This game is so big and so important that other big name creators are getting involved with the project. Super storyteller Guillermo del Toro also perform key roles within the game. Judging from the trailer, the game revolves around Sam Bridges (played by Norman Reedus) saving people who have been taken hostage by unknown beings.

However, Kojima wrote a blog post shortly after the conference to give some context around what people saw at E3:

Some might have already picked up on this, but Sam is unlike any other hero you may have seen in games before. A typical hero is usually some sort of elite or someone with a military background. Sam is not. He is a working man of sorts — a hands-on professional. Someone with a skillset akin to a blue-collar worker. This is something you’ll intuitively understand once you play the game and control Sam. Herein lies our challenge, to create both a new form of gameplay and a hero that has never been done before.

Resident Evil 2 Remastered

Also shown off is the long awaited remake of a fan favourite in the Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil 2 Remastered the game is scheduled to be released on January 25th 2019 and a new third person view was confirmed! Since the game is a remake, so, players will also be able to play as both Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy! (Polygon)
