The future of smoking (?)

I’m not much of a vaper. I’ve always been tempted by the idea, but I enjoy the kick you gain from tobacco. If only there was a way to smoke loose leaf in the form vapour, a vaporiser if you will.

That’s where the Pax 2 comes in.

Bpax-2-sizeeing new to the vaporiser game, I was curious to see what the Pax 2 could offer me what a classic cigarette couldn’t. And after spending some time with it, it’s quickly become a mainstay in my smoking lifestyle.

DISCLAIMER: Smoking is bad and this review is in no way endorsing the habit. It is also in no way dismissing those who do smoke. You should or shouldn’t smoke at your own discretion.

(Look, you know what I’m going to be talking about in this review. I know what I’m going to be talking about in this review. So, let’s enjoy a brief joyous moment of shared understanding……… Boy that was fun. Now back to the review)

The Pax 2 features a small oven at the bottom that allows you to place whatever you so wish to smoke within. The oven is surprisingly deep for such a little machine, being a good 6cm, and when it’s packed in with whatever you wish to smoke it feels incredibly compact.

When starting the Pax 2, you have to wait for it to warm up for a good 30-50 seconds depending on how much is in the oven and what heat sensitivity you set it to. When then LED lights on the front go from purple to green, it’s go time.pax-2-vaporizer-20278

Smoking the Pax 2 isn’t like a normal cigarette, you don’t puff on it all willy nilly! Instead you have to lightly suck on the funnel as if drinking through a straw. It’s a strange experience at first, and it might not click for a while, but once you get the hang of it, sipping quickly becomes a natural and easy way of getting the smoky goods you need. For the best results, you want to wait until you can hear a light crackling from inside the Pax, and then inhale.

And you’ll most likely want to master it so you can take it out and about. For the Pax 2 isn’t your typical sort of vaporiser. It’s going for style and sheik over active practicality. Don’t get me wrong, it works a treat, it just doesn’t scream “Hey look at me, I vape!” as much as some other vapes do. And that’s something many will appreciate. It makes taking it out to bars and clubs less of a fear, and more of a part of your attire.

One quick tip for when you first get the Pax 2 is to clean it before you smoke for the first time. The Pax comes ready to go, but anything you smoke will naturally taste slightly metallic. Also, something was lodged in the pipe that halted any real vaper from getting through. So make sure everything is clear and at prime smoking state in order to get the most out of the Pax 2.

One gripe I have with the Pax 2 is the lack of taste you get from smoking. Even when fully loading the oven to the top and finding the perfect temperature, there still seems to be a lack of taste. There’s still some there, but nothing compared to the taste you get from a normal cigarette. (And yes, it’s true that since there is no smoke there will technically be less taste, but it’s a shame there’s no way to get that little extra kick that makes cigarettes what they are).

But on the other hand, the taste you do get from the Pax 2 is quite unlike anything else, and can be rewarding in and of itself. The feeling you get is one completely different to any other forms of consuming whatever you smoke, and quite an enjoyable one too. I’ve been with groups of people who all agree the feeling you get from the Pax 2 was a lot of fun.

Is the Pax 2 going to be the thing to replace cigarettes? Probably not. What draws people toward cigarettes isn’t always necessarily the cigarette itself, but more the lifestyle that’s built around it. But the Pax 2 is certainly a welcome addition to smoking, as it provides a sensation that no normal smoke can provide. So for those looking for something a little new, the Pax 2 is certainly something worth looking into.
