StoryTerrace

20th January 2020/in Entertainment/by billywright

Nostalgia. We all love it. But why? Well, Biography writing service StoryTerrace reveals the health benefits of nostalgia. Furthermore it describes why nostalgia plays a big part in us wanting to document our stories. It’s a unique blend, as it’s a unique combination of thoughts which are wrapped up in emotion. Sure you can be happy and that’s cool, but when you’re nostalgic, it involves the cognitive process of remembering. Which also has emotions attached to it. Which could, have some positive influence on our health!

The stories of our lives are made up of memories and the empotions that come with them. StoryTerrace is encouraging everyone to tap into nostalgia, Rutger Bruining, an authority on nostalgia, shares his views on why we should indulge in nostalgia a lot more:

Nostalgia makes us feel happy.

Studies have discovered that writing down a nostalgic event tends to result in positive emotions. While this can be enhanced by focusing on all the things we’ve gained in the past. Whilst turning a blind eye to the sad things we’ve gone through.

Nostalgia brings us together.

Researchers have referred nostlagia as a psychological resource. Since it can make us feel safe and loved, yet, when you start to remember past relationships and lost loved ones. A feeling of bittersweet can accompany nostalgia.  Therefore when we feel such strong emotions like nostalgia, we often seek comfort in those close to us.

Nostalgia warms our hearts AND our bodies.

In 2012, scientific studies discovered that listening to nostalgic music caused participants ambient temperature to rise. Therefore the nostalgia made them feel warmer. Which as a result made them more tolerant to the cold, when they asked to dip their hand in ice water. The study’s volunteers also felt more nostalgic on cold days. Since it helped their bodies regulate temperature.

Looking at the past gives us hope for the future.

Nostalgia can help us remind ourselves that there’s good in the world. As it helps us look to the future. As the volunteers were introduced to nostalgic words, in response to this they reported that they felt a bright future ahead.

Reminiscing supplies our lives with meaning.

Taking into account the above, according to a study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, nostalgia can help with people deal with the fear of mortality. By making individuals feel as though their lives are meaningful, nostalgia can help to overcome hardships and give our lives purpose.

StoryTerrace

“Emotionally connecting with your younger self helps you maintain a sense of continuity over time. Without memory, we would have no identity. The experiences you’ve had throughout your life help define who you are at any given moment. Here at StoryTerrace, we understand entirely that a sense of connectivity to our pasts is vital for our mental health and wellbeing—and preserving and reminiscing on our own life stories is so important to our happiness. Documenting memories and the emotions attached to them allow us to share and reminisce on our personal tales – and everyone has a story worth sharing.” CEO and Founder of StoryTerrace, Rutger Bruining

Ocean all electric affordable car by Fisker!

5th November 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Fisker recently revealed that they are planning to release an affordable electric SUV in 2021. This SUV is called “Fisker Ocean”, they’ll build a show car and debut a “fully running production intent prototype sitting on the actual, completely engineered platform” on the 4th January 2020.  When they reveal the “Fisker Ocean” it will be during a private event. However, it will be livestreamed so everyone can watch.

Recycling

What separates the Fisker Ocean from many other electric vehicles is that it will have a full length solar roof. Therefore extending the vehicles range. Fisker believes that the solar panel will provide up to an extra 1,000 miles worth of energy and clean miles a year. To further highlight Fisker’s belief in recycling, the carpeting will be made of fishing net which have been pulled from oceans. While vegan materials will be used for the interior.

Fisker are releasing it’s own mobile app on November 27th to lease the vehicle with no long term contracts. They will take early reservations and tell us more information about “Ocean” on the same day.

Fisker have previously said that the SUV will cost >$40,000, therefore making it one of the relatively affordable EV’s on the market. The target range for the SUV will approximately be 250 to 300miles. While it may come with an 80kWh lithium-ion battery.

While, Fisker’s Ocean sub-$40,000 electric car will debut on January 4th, 2020, production is stated to begin by the end of 2021. With the first set of high volume deliveries to take place in 2022.

Memory Implants are Almost here!

14th May 2017/in Future, Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

The idea of a chip that allows record and replay memories may seem farfetched, Apple believe it soon will become reality.

During a TED talk in Vancouver Tom Gruber co-creator of Siri said:

“I believe AI will make personal memory enhancement a reality. I think it’s inevitable.”

Konbini are reporting that companies from all across Silicon Valley are working on designing telepathic AI that would allow such feats.

It’s hoped that tech like this would help in law suits and in the courts with things like assault, sexual assault and other crimes, acting as irrefutable evidence. While this is good, there is the worry of privacy and how ‘memories’ could be kept insanely secure (nothing can beat it being solely in your mind though eh?) To this privacy worry Gruber stated:

“We get to chose what is and is not recalled and retained. It’s absolutely essential that this be kept very secure.”

He’s spitballing of course, but we shall see what happens in the future.

Would you get an implant?

What memory would you like to re-see?

What memory wouldn’t you like to see again?

What memory would you delete?

Are we all going to become cyborgs?

Elon doesn’t have a clue.

13th May 2017/in Gadgets / Tech, Technology/by billywright

Last week we told you about the tunnels that Elon Musk wanted to build to get rid of traffic in LA. Well Musk actually began testing his hypothesis this past week on Space X properties.

Elon Musk actually Tweeted this in December and Marcus (at the time, when Producer Bill put this toward him as a feature on the show) said that Elon was joking. How wrong was he! 😉

Following through with his crazy promises (Because Money) Musk actually admitted:

“We have no idea what we’re doing—I want to be clear about that,” Musk said at a SpaceX hyperloop design competition this past Sunday.
On Sunday Musk hypothesised his tunnel idea on the concept of “going 3D down”:

You have tall buildings, they’re all 3D, and then everyone wants to go into the building and leave the building at a same time. On a 2D road network, that obviously doesn’t work, so you have to go 3D either up or down. And I think probably down”

Environmentalists aren’t happy though with an urban planning researcher at UCLA telling WIRED,

“Our recent experience with tunnels in the US is that neighbours worry, you run up against various environmental laws, and you just never know what’s underneath the Earth.”

But Musk retorted, “better tunnelling tech improves everything: road, subway, Hyperloop.”

Oh to be a billionaire.

Elon Musk’s BrainPlug

7th April 2017/in Future, Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Well Matrix is about to become reality…if Elon Musk has his way.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that, Elon Musk has started a company called “Neuralink” to develop a “neural lace: that would allow humans to communicate with machines without a physical interface. By implanting electrodes into a brain so that we could upload or download thoughts to a computer – thus possibly allowing us to achieve higher levels of cognitive function. (all sounds X-Men like doesn’t it!)

Musk touched upon a Neural Lace like implant at Vox Media’s Code Conference in 2016, stating it could allow humans to achieve “symbiosis” with machines, preventing them from becoming “house cats” to AI.

Though the WSJ is reporting that Neuralink’s first products could use implants to treat disorders such as epilepsy.

Augmented GAP dressing Rooms!

10th February 2017/in Future, Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

You soon may be able to ‘try on’ clothes before you actually buy them or have them in your possession! GAP have been experimenting with AR and are launching their “Dressing Room” app in the near future.

The app which was built in collaboration with Google and San Fran start up Avametric uses Augmented Reality to let users ‘try on’ clothes without having to have the clothes with them or be in an actual store. You’re not actually seen with them on unfortunately but rather a 3D mannequin type model. After you add info such as height/weight the app places a virtual model (which is based on you but isn’t you) in the room infant of you to see ho different items would fit. If you like it, then go ahead and purchase right from within the app.

Sounds cool enough but it won’t be available to all and is only available to Google Tango smartphones. Which are little and none, only the Lenovo Phab2 pro and an ASUS phone called ZenFone AR later this year. GAP Says that it is solely focused on making its app work on Google’s augmented reality platform.

2007 Predicting 2017!

15th December 2016/in Entertainment, Technology/by billywright

2007 is all but a decade ago. A DECADE AGO!

Feel old right?

Anyway, this video from NBC in America predicted some pretty cool stuff to happen next year…..see the video below to see what they got right (quite a lot actually) and what they didn’t correctly predict!

I’m still waiting for this!

“You’re rushed to a hospital unconscious with no ID or medical history. But, thanks to a microchip under your skin, it’s all there.”

Amazon Supermarkets!

10th December 2016/in Gadgets / Tech, Technology/by billywright

Amazon are testing a radical new concept for the supermarket.

Amazon’s crazy idea eliminates any requirement for any cashiers (say goodbye to those annoying self service checkouts!) simply tap in (similar to how you would tap in to the train station in London via an Oyster card) grab whatever food you need and then walk out. You are then billed to your Amazon account on your departure.

Available only in Seattle at the moment and you can only try it if you’re an Amazon employee or beta tester, public trials are scheduled to start sometime in 2017.

Amazon said in a press release:

“Our Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart.”

View the video below to see what Amazon Go is all about!
