The Witcher on Netflix

The Witcher on Netflix

5th November 2019/in Entertainment/by billywright

Well I don’t know about you but The Witcher looks FANTASTIC! We all know about the amazing games that are based on the same book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. But this is the first time we’ve seen a live action adaptation. We have to say that we are very very excited for what’s to come.

For those unawares The Witcher is an upcoming fantasy drama web series that’s created by Lauren Schmidt for Netflix. (Who recently revealed that she’s planning 7 seasons!)

Games Radar recently published an interview that Schmidt did with their sister publication SFX magazine and told them that they’re planning to set up stories that can capture audiences interest for years at a time.

“We don’t have a second season yet – God willing we will – but right now it’s just about, ‘How do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?….The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to.”

Nothing is better than a long story arc, gives us time to breathe and we can connect with the characters more. So we’re all for it!

The Witcher Plot

The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia. He is a monster hunter who traverses an unnamed continent, hunting down lots of different monsters and creatures. All with a HUGE sword! The Geralt saga has spanned five books, released between 2008 and 2017. While the author (Sapkowski) has also written other short stories which also take place in the same realm as Geralt.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, THE WITCHER is an epic tale of fate and family. The story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

The trailer was dropped at Lucca Comics and Games 2019 as a part of a special panel with The Witcher cast (Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra) and Showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich!

The Witcher begins streaming on Netflix on December 20th 2019.

Top 5 Facts About Online Gaming

24th September 2019/in Lifestyle/by marcusbronzy

Since the first video game was released in 1958, the popularity of online gaming has rapidly increased. A million-dollar industry, it has developed into a staple of modern culture.

There are many reasons as to why people play video games. From escapism to gaining a sense of community, it opens up a gamer’s imagination to a world beyond anything they have ever imagined. However, as with online casino games such as those offered by eurocasino casino, it’s important to know when to stop and put down the controller.

A fascinating industry in itself, there are many amazing statistics and facts related to it. If you’re interested in the world of online gaming, here are the top five facts to dig your teeth into!

  • The Most Expensive Game Ever Made Was Grand Theft Auto: V

Grand Theft Auto has to be one of the world’s most famous video games. And its fifth edition is to date, the most expensive to be created. Costing over $265 million, Rockstar North spent roughly equal on the creation and the marketing. However, even though this figure seems crazy, the amount of money that the developer has earned back from its sale has no doubt made it worth it.

The second most expensive video game is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which comes in at $250 million – with $50 million spent on development and $200 million on marketing.

  • There Are More Women Gamers

Often, people think that video games are only played by men. Well, they couldn’t be more wrong. Over the years, the market has heavily diversified to introduce an impressive 48% of female video game players. With more women now identifying as gamers over men, it’s clear that the industry is continuously changing.

  • Online Gaming Improves Concentration and Decision Making

People often associate online gaming with a lack of concentration. But the complexity of video games means that gamers tend to have better decision-making skills, have an exceptional attention span and can multitask when need be. Having the determination to work out each game and the tasks set by it requires a certain type of mind.

  • Over 50% of Gamers Are Over 50

Continuing on from the discussion above, another clear sign that the industry is ever-changing is that it is now heavily populated by those over the age of 50. Holding an incredible 58% across all of the social online games, this new audience is swiftly taking over. This boom can be seen at online tournaments, such as the e-sports show that recently played host to a team of over 60s called ‘The Silver Snipers’.

  • The Chinese Video Market is The Biggest

It might come as a surprise (or not) but the Chinese Market makes the most revenue. An ever-growing industry, in 2018 Chinese consumers spent over $38 billion on video games – which makes them hold an incredible 28% market share. Within this statistic, they spent $23 billion on mobile games and $15 billion on console and PC games.

Nintendo UK alongside the government-funded Digital Schoolhouse (DSH) programme are holding a Super Smash Bros tournament. Yes you read that right, a Super Smash Bros School Tournament.

Super Smash Bros SCHOOL TOURNAMENT?

4th September 2019/in Entertainment/by billywright

Nintendo UK alongside the government-funded Digital Schoolhouse (DSH) programme are holding a Super Smash Bros tournament. Yes you read that right, a Super Smash Bros School Tournament.

The idea behind this initiative is to give school children a taste of the wider industry. Which includes the various roles from within the gaming industry. The DSH programme works with a total of 55 schools nationwide. Nintendo will help them run a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Team Battle. The schools themselves will initially run an in-house tournament to find their best players. Then the top teams from each school will go on to face each other in a grand final. Sounds pretty cool right! Where was this when I was a kid?!

This isn’t just some small time tournament either. It will be run in the form of a proper eSports show. Therefore important roles such as team management, production and commentators will be there. Nintendo will be providing all of the equipment and materials required too. The hope with this is that it will reach at least 60 schools and 6,000 pupils.

“uniquely combines computing, fun, creativity and innovation, all of which are synonymous and at the heart of Nintendo’s values […] we want to be able to provide young adults with fun and unique experiences that will form positive lasting memories as well as foster the development of skillsets within students which they can take with them into their future.” Kalpesh Tailor, Nintendo UK’s head of communications

Schools can sign up to the Super Smash Bros School Tournament via the DSH website, so ask your teachers nicely! Then if selected schools have from September 2019 until February 2020 to run their in-house tournaments to determine their best team.

After the ‘heats’, from February/March 2020 each of the winning teams from each of the schools will compete in regional qualifiers. Then there’s a North vs South Semi Final. The North/South qualifier will see the teams face-to-face at a single venue. So at this point it gets pretty serious. The event is run by presenters, casters, and various other eSports / production roles for students.

Until it comes to the final. In April 2020, it will be held at the London Games Festival.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Team Battle isn’t the only game getting DSH love. Nintendo UK are working with them to create 2 further workshops using the Switch. The games are Super Mario Maker 2 and Labo. These games will teach parts of the curriculum. Though there isn’t much details on what yet.

Wish I had a Super Smash Bros School Tournament when I went to school! How cool would that have been?

The German sportswear giant have told our friends over at Engadget that the deal with Ninja is intended to show it’s commitment to gaming culture. Moving forward, Adidas said, it will continue to find brand new ways to support the gaming the other 2.3 billion gamers around the world. Adidas are looking to help athletes make a difference. Regardless of what they choose to play.

This comes hot off the heels of another HUGE deal that Ninja has recently secured. Leaving the Twitch streaming service to use Microsoft’s Mixer. Which sent shockwaves around the gaming community. Futhermore he has his own toy line. Plus it is rumoured that Ninja get’s paid $1M to play games like Apex Legends.

No shortcuts. Only long days. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t catch your dreams.
Choose your path. Put the TIME IN.

It’s no secret that Adidas does support various other e-sports teams at the moment. However, the deal with Ninja is different as he is a solo player and not a team. What will come of this deal who knows? Maybe there will be gamer focused apparel or Adidas branded Ninja merch?
