KFC and it’s Lab Made Chicken

22nd July 2020/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

The Verge are reporting that KFC have teamed up with Moscow’s 3D Bioprinting Solutions with the end goal of producing the world’s first lab made chicken! Specifically chicken nuggets!

Moscow’s 3D Bioprinting Solutions are looking to develop an additive printing technique. Which will use chicken cells and plant material that will recreate the taste and texture of natural chicken. While at the same time keeping involvement to a minimum. Furthermore, to achieve the goal of creating lab printed chicken. KFC will provide bread, spices and other ingredients to match the restaurants signature flavour. So, when do you think KFC will achieve this? KFC are hoping to have a final nugget design completed and ready to test by Moscow in autumn of 2020!

Lab produced meat has numerous advantages. For one, it is more environmentally friendly as it doesn’t require as much resources. According to KFC, a study suggests it requires 100 times less farmland and even cuts greenhouse gas emissions by 25 times! There’s less chemicals involved too, which means there’s less harm to animals!

Bioprinted meat, much like KFC’s plant-based chicken, allows the chain to be available to a wider audience. The food chain is also more stable and KFC will deal with less shortages as a result!

Netflix Gave Away 83 Year Subscription!

22nd July 2020/in Entertainment/by billywright

Netflix recently gave away an 83 year subscription! Yes you read that right, an 83 YEAR subscription. So basically you’ll never have to pay for Netflix again. To promote the new Charlize Theron Film The Old Guard, they held a gaming tournament. With the prize being the basically lifelong subscription.

To win, all you needed to do was to be amazing at the original video game of The Old Guard. The task? To beat everyone and by the number 1 gamer by the end of a weekend a couple of weeks ago.

Netflix described the prize as an ‘immortal’ subscription of 1,000 months. Which is 83 and a third years.

They've always been among us. Follow #TheOldGuard through their history. pic.twitter.com/eo44eQqtae

— The Old Guard (@oldguardmovie) July 15, 2020

The game was a ‘browser-based, top-down beat em up”. You’ll be  playing as Charlize’s character, Andromache of Scythia.

Originally, in the comics, Andromache was the oldest in the gang of immortals. She uses a double-bladed axe called the Labrys to hack and slash her way to victory.

The Netflix film is about immortality, so even if you die in the game, you’ll just move slower, which would have made it difficult to get the top score.

While the competition has now ended, you can still enjoy the game! So, go ahead and play it, why not!

The game is available here!

(Gizmodo)

The game will be available here from 4pm today (Friday 17th July). Good luck.

Netflix Shuffle

22nd July 2020/in Entertainment/by billywright

The Netflix Shuffle! Netflix have seemingly looked to introduce a ‘shuffle’ button that’ll queue up a TV episode completely at random. This new feature will be particularly helpful for those that spend hours at a time looking for something to watch. Rather than actually watching something. So, the option is only available on a few TV shows and is available via a ‘Random Episode’ button.

However it is only noticed by a few users and according to the New York Post it is currently in the ‘second round of testing’ after it was first trialled last year. Furthermore it is only available on Android and Amazon Fire TV versions of the Netflix app. The streaming giant is said to be gathering feedback on the feature and will then decide if it will be made available to the rest of us.

It seems to be getting great feedback online however!

not gonna lie – i’m feeling the shuffle feature on netflix

— Junaid (@junaidthebrown) July 17, 2020

This new feature follows one of Netflix’s most annoying features. Finally allowing people to remove movies/TV shows from the ‘Continue Watching” Row!

You can now click on the title card and the option to ‘Remove From Row’ should appear at the bottom!

Finally!

Outfit7 is celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary of Talking Tom this summer! Talking Tom made his global debut in his first game in July 2010 and instantly became an overnight sensation! 10 years and 13 billion downloads later, Outfit7 is inviting fans to a special “POK-A-TOM’ event from July 20th to July 30th.

During the celebration the total number of pokes will be displayed on a “POK-A-METER” on the Outfit7 official website. While if players manage to complete the challenge, (10 billion pokes) every player will be gifted a generous in-game currency bundle. More times Tom gets poked, the bigger the reward!

“Fans have poked Tom almost too many times to count since 2010,”

“Over 400 million fans play with the games every month, so we wanted them to be included in the celebration by doing more of what they love – and getting fun rewards to enjoy with Tom in return!”

Xinyu Qian, CEO of Outfit7

Tom has changed a lot over the past 10 years. Tom has inspired the Talking Tom and Friends Franchise, which now includes a total of 23 mobile games, digital video content, which has over 56 billion views and a movie that’s in development! Social Distancing Dancing: The Social Dis-Dancing

16th July 2020/in Entertainment/by billywright

Social Distancing Dancing – Which dance routines are the most difficult to learn?

Much of the UK is still in lockdown, with indoor gyms and leisure centres are remaining closed for now. So, many people have found new ways to get and stay active. One of these ways is with dancing. Iconic dance routines have been unearthed and replicated over and over on social media. Viral challenges have sprung up on Tik Tok. So, whether it’s to keep fit, to get likes or to get views. Social Distancing Dancing!

Routines

USwitch have crunched the numbers on the top 10 most popular routines at the minute. Allowing you to get involved and work your way through the various difficulties of the difference dances. Ranging from beginner to expert. Allowing you to get fit and active whilst doing it.

USwitch have taken the top 5 most iconic dance routines and the most popular TikTok dance challenges. With the help of expert dancers, Jane White, Dance Course Leader and Senior Lecturer at Arts University Bournemouth and dance teacher to the stars, Andrea Rose, USwitch rated them on a difficulty scale of 1-10, with one being the easiest to learn.

Furthermore two experts rated each dance independently with average ratings taken from both. Which focus on length of routine, the amount of moves and difficulty of transitions. Calories burned was also worked in each routine, with the experts predicting how long the routine would take to master, using a calorie counting formula to work out a figure. The full research can be found below:

Social Distancing Health Benefits

So, in just 5 minutes, TikTokers can be raking in the likes after mastering the ‘Out West’ challenge. Though those that want to go the whole hog and make use of the time that we have on lockdown. MC Hammer’s ‘U Can’t Touch This’ routine could be the antidote to life without a gym. Why? As you can burn a huge 35,269 kcal in the process of learning the routine. Which is the equivalent of the average person running for more than 54 hours on the treadmill or cycling for 137 hours!

More than just likes, dancing has a lot of other wider benefits. Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, and Author Stuart Robert explains:

“Dancing is one of those rare forms of exercise that ticks all the boxes. As well as improving cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, joint mobility, coordination and balance it’s also something you can do at any time of your life.

“Most types of dancing are low impact which minimises the risk of injury. And by putting less pressure on the joints it’s great for older people. It’s also a great form of exercise for improving motor fitness. This is your body’s ability to transmit impulses from your nervous tissue (nerve cells called motor neurons) to your muscular tissue. Improving the efficiency of these nerve cells can help to:

  • Increase agility

  • Improve balance

  • Enhance coordination

  • Increase muscular power

  • Improve speed of movement

  • Enhance reaction time

“As well as the many physical benefits, dancing has a host benefits for mental health. Learning a new dance routine and then perfecting it provides a great challenge and focuses our attention. Concentrating on learning the steps enables us to switch off from our day to day concerns and forget about the news headlines for a while. Our brains have the ability to learn and grow, even as we age, making new neural connections. This ‘neural/brain plasticity’ can help to maintain and build cognitive skills such as memory and spatial recognition.

“Dancing can also make us feel happier by boosting our mood and has been shown to reduce depression and anxiety. The physical exercise releases mood enhancing endorphins and the feel-good hormone serotonin, whilst reducing stress hormones such as cortisol.  Another great benefit is that dancing provides us with a challenge.”

Rehan Ali, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com commented on the research:

“If you are looking to take on one of these viral challenges and then share it with the world, you are going to need the right equipment. Ensure you have lots of space to practice. You might want this to be somewhere private for the outtakes! You’re going to need a handset that can record quality video, with a big display in order to analyse the dances you are trying to replicate. If you already have the phone, you might need to ensure you have the ability to stream these videos over and over again while you learn the moves, so ensure that you have a data package that can handle the demand! Good luck!”

Research

Speaking of the research, Sarah Broomfield, energy expert at Uswitch said:

“Lockdown has almost certainly impacted global spend on home energy and people will be thinking more about how the small things they do to use electricity in their home contributes to the bigger picture when it comes to their annual bills.

“Noting that energy costs are so different around the world, we wanted to explore the relative cost of common activities to understand how those differences impact us on a practical level.

“We encourage home energy users to regularly review their energy bills to identify any savings and to compare energy prices annually to ensure they’re getting the best deal possible.”

—

Methodology:

The global cost of Netflix electricity was calculated by energy market analysts at Uswitch, the comparison and switching service.

The global cost per KWh was taken from the World Energy Council; this was then applied to the energy use requirements of common household items as defined by the Centre of Sustainable Energy.

The cost of powering a television was then applied to the average Netflix consumption of 2 hours per day, which gave a cost per person based on the country’s cost of electricity. This was then multiplied by subscriber numbers per country, as sourced from Netflix, to calculate the total cost per country per year.

Uswitch’s World Powers report is a study of the global cost of energy applied to common household activities to provide a clearer picture of the relative impact of energy cost differences around the world; the full study can be found at https://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/world-powers/.

The research from Uswitch comprises data relating to a range of common household activities including charging a laptop, boiling a kettle and topping up an electric vehicle. The full study can be found at https://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/world-powers/.

**Netflix doesn’t publish country-specific viewer figures, so USwitch took global viewer figures and multiplied them by the percentage of total subscribers in that country to calculate the number of viewers per country.
