12th May 2017/in Gadgets, Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Another tech company is stealing Snapchat’s thunder and is utilizing QR codes and their shareability.

Spotify are said to be letting you use QR Codes to share songs with your buddies.

To pull up a “Spotify Code” just toggle the share function by tapping the three dots located at the top right hand screen of a song. Hit SHARE and you’ll see a code which is uniquely disguised as an audio waveform, get your buddy to tap the camera icon to the right of the search bar within Spotify and aim at that waveform.

BOOM.

The song will start playing right away.

Spotify Hardware?

29th April 2017/in Gadgets, Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Spotify, the world’s most popular music streaming device may be jumping into the world of hardware. According to job postings, reveal a handful of openings that make hint towards designing and selling hardware. Stating that the new employee would

“deliver hardware directly from Spotify to existing and new customers……a category defining product akin to Pebble Watch, Amazon Echo, and Snap Spectacles.”

There are a host of other job listings that hint towards new hardware, most notably  ‘Voice’ and ‘Language’ team listings but within those listings they aren’t exclusive to working with external companies like Amazon/Google, assuming to make Spotify work better on Alexa/Google Home, but to working in house.

What can Spotify be working on?

Anchor.FM

19th March 2017/in Apps, Entertainment/by billywright

Producer Bill checked out Anchor.FM this week and absolutely loved it!

Anchor is a whole new way to experience audio. It’s the first platform built for an audio-first world!

In Anchor, everyone has a station. Stations are made up of bite-sized segments (voice, music, news, sound effects) that make it super easy to discover, hear, and share your new favorite audio. When you hear something you love, applaud it. (It’s a Like you can actually hear!)

Whatever you’re into, we can almost guarantee there’s a station on Anchor about it.

Apple wages war on Netflix streaming service

20th January 2017/in Gadgets / Tech, Technology/by billywright

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Apple Music service are planning to add original video content to their service to help gain more subscribers.

This has been rumoured for a long time. It seems that Apple is now starting to reach out to Hollywood producers and are planning to add original content by the end of this year.

Apple are apparently trying to create some hard hitting original content like Westworld and Stranger Things.  There will be original movies potentially appearing later on down the line if the Tv Shows are a success.

There’s no news as to what type of shows that the big fruit seem to be planning due to how tight lipped they are with things usually.  This is kind of a surprise but kind of isn’t. Apple recently released a documentary. It was called 808: The Movie and narrated by Zane Lowe. So there were some signs! Apple acquired the rights to broadcast their own 30 minute series of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke. Also the company are planning a semi-autobiographical documentary series. One called ‘Vital Signs’ starring Dr Dre which is due out on Apple Music this year.

So this new venture see’s Apple’s first step outside of music related video content. How will they do?

Jay Z being a business  man once again and ripping off the little guy!

Jay Z already pulled ‘Reasonable Doubt’ off Spotify before he launched TIDAL – recently he has quietly pulled his 2001 Blueprint Albums off of ALL streaming services but his own, (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, GooglePlay)

However you can still listen to the majority of  Jay Z’s back-catalogue on those music services – he’s only pulled BluePrint.

Spotify’s bored of just having you use your ears on their service, now they’re infiltrating your eyes too! A new video streaming service is said to be ‘starting this week’

The Wall Streey Journal says that video content will be available on Android apps “starting this week”, while those using iOS will have the service “by the end of next week”

Apparently dropping in the UK, US, Germany and Sweden, and the first wave of content will be provided by the likes of “ESPN, Comedy Central, the BBC, Vice Media and Maker Studios”.

Videos will be “contextually relevant” based on the kinds of music you listen to.

As well as short playlists of video content neatly packaged up to watch, types of videos will be more short form like “News of the Week” or “Laughs at Lunch”.
