2nd August 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

Love Netflix as much as we do? Well here’s some Netflix Tips to make your experience even better! (All the following steps take place within Netflix’s app)

Netflix Tips!

#1 Download even better looking content

If you head on over to App Settings (Within Netflix) > Video Quality > Higher all of your downloaded content visuals will be improved ten fold! However, these videos will take up more space on your hard drive and will hit the data allowance a little more. Though we think that that’s a great trade off!

#2 Kick your Ex off your account

If you’ve broken up with your significant other and want to take back control of your Netflix account as well as your life, it’s as simple as 1,2,3. Simply head on over to Account > Recent Device Streaming Activity. This will first show you who has been access the account and what devices have been used.

Then, we can kick the ex off the account, though it requires a complete destruction of all devices that use the account. Therefore you’re going to have to re-sign in on your iPhone, Laptop and other places you use Netflix. Go to Account > Sign out of all devices> Sign out. Boom. No more Netflix for them!

iTunes

iTunes Gone?

19th April 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

Is iTunes dead? Who actually buys music anymore? Are Apple going to kill off iTunes? Or are they going to give it a slow death? Well there have been rumours that Apple are looking to kill off it’s music downloading service, iTunes, in favour of it’s music streaming service, Apple Music. These rumours were so strong that Apple were forced in giving a statement in which an Apple spokesman said that ‘It’s not true’ Short and sweet. We like it!

Metro revealed to the public last year that Apple were planning to stop selling album bundles, which Apple called iTunes LP’s. Metro reported that industry sources and analysts hailed this move as Apple looking to cease operation on their long running iTunes service. The rumour began when Digital Music news stated it would shut down on March 31st, 2019. Yet an Apple Spokesman stated that it wasn’t true.

Legendary music producer turned Apple employee, Jimmy Iovine, stated, according to the BBC, that Apple were indeed looking to shelve the service. When he was asked if it were going to be phased out of just shut off all together. Jimmy said that there’s no timescale and ‘If I’m honest, it’s when people stop buying. ‘It’s very simple.’

So who knows?

iTunes vs Subscription

Apple are in a race to become the biggest streaming service in the world. Whilst it’s hot on the heels of Spotify’s number 1 spot. (70million subscribers) Compared to Apple’s 38Million, there’s still some growth to go, but with 2 million growth in subs over 1 month. It can be argued that Apple could and should catch up by the end of the year.

Cloud Gaming

Xbox Cloud Gaming

28th March 2018/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

In what has seemingly sneaked under the radar. Microsoft recently announced that it’s launching a cloud gaming division. Marking out to the rest of the gaming industry that they’re entering the world of game streaming. They’re taking it seriously too.

The verge are reporting that it’s something that’s been building up for quite some time. Recently the huge computing giant acquired small gaming focused cloud companies. PlayFab who focus on game development in the cloud are now a Microsoft company. Will we see an Xbox that’s solely focused on cloud gaming?

Microsoft basically have something similar with Xbox Game Pass. Think Netflix but for gaming. However, instead of streaming the games you download them, keeping the license for x amount of months until you stop paying the £15 a month. There aren’t many good games on there at the moment, but that will soon change. Microsoft recently announced that alongside catalogued games, games like Sea Of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3. All HUGE titles for Microsoft are being made available on their subscription service.

Cloud Gaming Direction

Consequently, Microsoft’s announcement almost proves that they want to move away from their users downloading their games to streaming them. As that was a major criticism of many users. Not enough up to date games available on the Game Pass. The two recent announcements could hint at the direction Microsoft are taking.

While OnLive a cloud game streaming service, failed. Other platforms game streaming is alive and kicking. Playstation Now From Sony allows users to play PS4 games on their PC’s and Nvidia has GeForce Now (Beta) Microsoft obviosly isn’t saying anything to anyone. However Kareem Choudhry Corporate VP of Xbox hints that they want users to play content on any device.

FOX

Disney Acquire 20th Century FOX

21st December 2017/in Entertainment/by billywright

In the world’s worst kept secret. Disney’s crush on 20th Century FOX has had a fruitful ending. A mega-merger.

The deal amounts to $66B (the second largest merger this year, only to Broadcom-Qualcom at $130B) and includes, Movie Studios, Networks Nat Geo and FX, plus a 60% stake in Hulu. Rumour over here in the UK is that they want FOX’s to be allowed to acquire Sky. So, they too, will own Sky.

While it’s interesting to dream of X-Men in the Avengers movies.

Something may not be so apparent in the buying of FOX’s. Sure they now own a HUGE chunk of the movie business. But what are Disney jealous off……

Netflix

As a result of purchasing FOX and a controlling stake (?) in Hulu, (60% is ALOT) this is Disney’s throw of the dice in the streaming world. Hence, why Disney had such a strong love interest in Hulu.

Whether Disney will fold Hulu (if they can) and build up a brand new streaming service of their own. Consequently with exclusive Disney/FOX’s content. Is anyone’s guess. But will there be pull of Marvel content from Netflix? How badly will this hurt Netflix?

Only time will tell. But this is HUGE for the consumer.

Remember Nokia, the BIG, well used to be BIG, like HUGE, mobile phone manufacturer, well they arent dead and buried yet. They are BACK in the form of VR cameras!

VR is blowing up! Nokia is happy to help you ride the new wave that is VR, with Nokia creating a VR Broadcasting option for its Ozo Camera (worth $60K) which will show 360-degree video as it happens, complete with spatial audio.

While the likes of you and I wont be able to afford to experiment with it, streaming providers and other broadcasters will be able to play soon.

With the camera reaching a handful of partners in the spring and hopefully be widely available this summer, so don’t be surprised if immersive videos are commonplace in the near future.

Jay Z being a business  man once again and ripping off the little guy!

Jay Z already pulled ‘Reasonable Doubt’ off Spotify before he launched TIDAL – recently he has quietly pulled his 2001 Blueprint Albums off of ALL streaming services but his own, (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, GooglePlay)

However you can still listen to the majority of  Jay Z’s back-catalogue on those music services – he’s only pulled BluePrint.
