On January 9th the iPhone is going to be 10 years old.

It changed the mobile phone industry as we know it and paved the way for many other smartphones out there and the war between Apple and Samsung begun not long after.

Websites weren’t displayed full screen on mobiles and had half keyboard/screen layouts.

The iPhone changed it ALL.

While it didn’t all come at once (cut and paste took 3 years!) the iPhone blew everyone out of the water at the time.

  • What the competition looked like

  • It ran on EDGE (2G)

  • The 1st iPhone required a computer to set it up. It was another five years before Apple cut the cord

  • Couldn’t change the background from black

  • Cut/Copy/Paste took 3 years to implement

  • No landscape texting

  • The camera was very poor and couldn’t even shoot video

  • Not even had picture message capabilities

  • No Siri or voice control

  • No Google Maps/Apple Maps or turn by turn navigation.

    You had to use a TomTom (Who remembers those!)

  • It cost $499 for a 4 GB model, no $200 or $0 subsidized option. So if you thought $200 iPhone 7 with a contract was expensive it turns out the iPhone is actually cheaper now than it was 10years ago!
