Predator Adventures Seabreacher Experience

20th March 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

We look for new ways to kill time! Come join us!

Posted by How To Kill an Hour on Thursday, 25 July 2019

We recently attended the brand new Predator Adventures Seabreacher Experience in London and boy was it a LOT OF FUN!

Based at the Royal Victoria Dock in Central London, users are put into a super speed, high powered half-submersible speedboat that sends you through the water at an incredible rate. Ducking in and out of the water, just like a killer whale. Did we mention that the high speed powered vehicle that you’re strapped in, is shaped and designed to look just like a Killer Whale? No? Well it looks awesome! So, we’re implore you to try it out!

Predator Adventures Seabreacher Experience: What is it?

Launching in 2017, the guys over at Predator Adventures are one of the most exciting experiences and acitivities that we have undertaken here at How To Kill An Hour. Furthermore we’re still shocked and are in complete awe that something so powerful can go above and below water. The machine that you are in is powered by a 260hp supercharged vehicle, making it one of the highest performing seabreaching vehicles available today. Also, the seabreacher is designed to not only look like a Killer Whale but act like one too! The fully vectored thrust system mimics the tail articulation of  a Killer Whale!

So, we cannot think of any words to praise the guys at Predator Adventures. As our time there was incredibly fun and it’s definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity that you cannot afford to miss! It simply is an unforgettable experience. Therefore you will not regret it!

Facebook Lists

20th March 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

Facebook are trying to find out more about you in a way that looks less obtrusive. It’s called Facebook Lists and they’re totally customizable to make them whatever you wish them to be. For example you can have, ‘My 2018 Goals’ or ‘Things to do before I’m 30’ or even ‘Who inspires me the most’

Like with customizable status updates, you can change the background colour, or even add emojis to it to spruce it up a little.

To make things interesting you can copy someone else’s and make it better (or worse) or even straight up copy and see who achieves the most.

Why Facebook Lists?

The whole idea behind this relates to Facebook pushing down company pages content and promoting users content. They want their users to make more original content and thus making people engage more and more with one another. Therefore engaging less with company ‘engagement’ bait style posts.

This alongside Facebook’s recent update at the end of last year (gradually rolling out to more and more users) is the “Did you know” status or “Fun fact about me” style updates. Whereby users would write a question for example “My favourtie food is” and then listing it.  Is Facebook’s push to make each other more friendly and interact more.

This is getting a huge push with Facebook allegedly promoting posts from friends and family as well as prioritising local news in the news feed. Even pushing to including a dedicated local news and events section on their site. (Though this is limited to 6 cities in the US)

Facebook Lists is currently only available to Android users. If you’re on iOS you can see lists but you cannot create them just yet. (No news on when it will arrive to iOS either)

A book that’s not a book? Last Seen Online

15th March 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

Books in the 21st century are changing and they’re becoming a lot more than just an e-book on an Amazon Kindle! As seen online and many different apps, books are becoming a lot more interactive and more like a movie or a tv show! Last Seen Online is just that, an interactive book on just your phone. It takes place over 7 days and is in the form of a WhatsApp style chat log.

Last Seen Online is developed and created by unrd, the BookTech company of the year 2016, it’s award winning and best of all it’s free to download!

The fictional chat style story allows users to read through messages of a missing girl. We are then introduced, in real time, messages from her friends and family as you and her friends and family discover what happened to her.

In an almost cluedo style game, the app replicates a group chat messenger experience. It is here where you can delve into relationships between each of the characters. Understand how they fit into the story of a woman’s disappearance. It can get quite thrilling and sometimes scary so, you’ll most likely be gripped to your phone!

Last Seen Online: Plot

Amy Morris was out with friends celebrating her 26th birthday. However it is the day after and she never made it home. You have access to her text messages.

Read all of her conversations she had with her friends and family before she went missing. Then start receiving messages in real time as they realise she never returned home.

Over the next 7 days you’ll receive texts, audio messages, images and even videos as you delve into the life of Amy Morris and experience a mystery thriller, in a manner which is unlike no other.

Big Mouth

Big Mouth

15th March 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

Nick Bright has been killing time this week checking out a super interesting cartoon from Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg. It’s called ‘Big Mouth’ and is available to watch Netflix. Check out the trailer below:

The show is an adult cartoon so we will warn you not to watch this around any small children or maybe not a good idea to watch in public. As there some scenes in there which are quite naughty. Nick Bright said in the show that there is a scene where one of the main characters is playing basketball and then all the opponents change into giant d*cks. So, yeah, maybe not the best idea to watch around other people.

Big Mouth: Plot

Big Mouth follows 7th grade best friends Nick Birch and Andrew Glouberman as they try to figure out themselves in the world of adulthood. Figuring out what life is like while trying to figure out life while going through Puberty, Masturbation and Sexual Arousal.

The characters, both male and female, are things called ‘hormone monsters’ they act as Shoulder Angels. Maurice has a hormone monster called guides Andrew. Sometimes Nick and Jay in the story are also visited by Maurice. Yet we see a lot of Maurice hanging around with Andrew. Connie is Jessi and Missy’s hormone monster.

The series has the kids interacting with people and other objects in their world, of whom are personified. The objects and people in the story are there to give the kids helpful, sometimes confusing advice. Furthermore, the things and people that give the kids advice are ghost of Duke Ellington, Statue of Liberty, there’s even a pillow that’s capable of getting pregnant! There’s also something quite rude that gives Jessi advice, but that’s too rude to say here!

Let us know what you think of ‘Big Mouth’ by connecting with us on our socials, we’re @howtokillanhour across all of our socials.

The Pendulum

The Pendulum: Incredibly scary hyper reality

15th March 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

This week Marcus has delved into the world of VR once more and this time we’re not sure if he came out of it the same man as he was when he went in. It’s called ‘The Pendulum’ from the guys over at the Vault festival.

The story of ‘The Pendulum’ is as follows. You take on a character that has a secret that can bring down something called the ‘Foundation’. They have a device called The Pendulum which will reveal all of your darkest fears and use them against you.

Can you resist and survive The Pit in which you are placed?

‘The Pendulum’ is described as a hyper-reality experience, it’s one of the first that’s here in the UK. (We’ve tried another one with the Star Wars franchise) The Pendulum blends VR and physical sensations to immerse users in to a world that’s almost like our own. Consequently creating an unnerving interactive horror for one person.

The Pendulum Story

The story is loosely based on an original Edgar Allen Poe story, yet, it takes a lot of it’s inspiration by eighties visceral and psychological horror movies. Kronenberg and Hellraiser are some of the most famous examples that you may be aware of.

The site that The Pendulum is on also immerses you before the story even begins, with creepy environments (we won’t say exactly what, don’t want to give away the secrecy) The story has different endings depending on how you fare once inside, however, you got to make it to the end first.

However, one thing to note that, this game is scary, it’s designed to scare you. We will say that, if you do get too frightened and want the experience to stop, there is a safeword. So take on ‘The Pendulum’ at your own peril!

So, what do you think of the sound of the Pendulum? Have you experienced The Pendulum already? Let us know your thoughts by connecting with us on our social platforms, we’re @howtokillanhour across all of them!

Uber trip

Would you pay for an Uber Trip costing $1,600?

15th March 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

A man in the USA has been hit with a $1,600 charge for an Uber trip home, after he passed out in the vehicle – to make it just that bit worse. It was an Uber XL. Why did it cost so much? He selected his home in New Jersey whilst he visited friends 350 miles away at West Virginia University.

Yet speaking to BBC’s Newsbeat he informed them that the home he was due to be staying at was only four blocks away! He took his mammoth journey at 2:51am and he arrived at the end of his $1600 trip 5 or six hours later.

Partying + Uber trip

Kenny was enjoying a night out with friends and started to drink at 6pm. He hit a frat party where he continued to drink before finishing up the night at a club. Speaking to Newsbeat, Kenny says that he proceeded to black out. He doesn’t even remember ordering an Uber, but he certainly woke up in one! Whilst speaking to the BBC, Kenny says that he was mad and shocked, but ultimately as he was in so much shock he didn’t really know how to react.

He, like all of us would, disputed the journey with Uber. But as he set the address and took the ride he had to pay, regardless of his mistake. Whilst he is going to have to pay the Uber trip cost, he is questioning why his driver took someone so intoxicated and decided it was a ‘good idea’ to take him across the country.

Whilst this is somewhat funny for the rest of us, he’s still got to make the return journey back.

Kenny upon realising his mistake went ahead and looked at various other methods of travel back to West Virginia University. It would cost $35 to take a bus or $115 to take a plane.

So we’re assuming, he’ll leave Uber this time round.

La Liga

LA Liga are changing the way we watch football!

28th February 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

Marcus Bronzy is at Mobile World Congress and he headed over to La Liga where he was shown some of the cool techt they’re using to improve the way we consume football television!

La Liga 4K HDR

The way that Spanish football is broadcast will soon be taken to a different dimension. Very much thanks to the 4K HDR broadcasts that the league displays to two headline matches every matchday. To achieve this a grand total of 20 different HDR cameras are used to give viewers the crispest and clearest image possible. Though these types of broadcast are saved for headline games such as El Clasico. With the use of HDR it makes viewers feel closer to the action and as a result a lot more immersed in what they are seeing on screen. La Liga are one of the few organisations and football are one of the few sports that are taking advantage of HDR and it will look to really improve the quality of games on display.

La Liga: Intel True View

Intel True View is like something that you have never witnessed before. Viewers of La Liga are able to see replays in full 360 degree views. So each play is reproduced on screen so they can get their own perspective on games. Allowing replays to be viewed from any position and any angle. However, there is nothing quite like what we saw at Mobile World Congress.

First up is the ‘Be The Player’ feature, where users get to physically see what the player see’s during a match. So for example, you see a match and a shot was missed. You’re able to be shown a replay of this goal but from the players perspective. How cool is that!

Furthermore there will no longer be arguments between you and your mates about is it or isn’t it offside. Thanks to the use of something called the “Laser Wall”. The “Laser Wall a virtual wall that’s overlaid on the pitch giving viewers a much clearer view of the offside call.

La Liga: 3D Graphics

Ever wondered how much a player has run during a match? How well they’re doing throughout the season? The pass percentage during a game? Well now you can thanks to 3D overlays that’s displayed on the pitch above the players heads during live broadcasts. The tech allows viewers to give a unique insight into the analytical space of the game of football. Furthermore the tech also allows tactical and positional changes to be displayed on the screen during replays. So this one is mainly for the statisticians out there and for those who like abit of novelty in the game of football.

La Liga: Virtual Reality

VR is making it’s way to football! The use of VR allows viewers to pick and choose what they’re watching while the game is being played. Be that a highlight of the game or a replay, just by simply looking at it on screen. You’re also able to see 3D models of players right in front of you in your living room, not only that you can watch the game in full 360 degree VR! Putting you right at the heart of the action!

Star Wars Secrets of The Empire

Star Wars Secrets of the Empire: Ultimate Star Wars Experience?

20th February 2018/in Entertainment/by billywright

Star Wars Secrets of the Empire from the guys over at The Void, may just be the ultimate Star Wars Experience. It’s a hyper reality experience that takes over all of your senses to transport you into the world of Star Wars!

It’s a full sensory immersive VR/AR experience that takes you inside the action. Literally! It’s location based, so the sets are interactive too, there’s also real time effects that help to heighten your experience. They really go ALL IN, in trying to make your experience as real as possible.

You really have to experience yourself to truly understand what we’re talking about. (It’s THAT GOOD trust us!) Plus we’re really not allowed to delve into too much as the experience is all about discovery! We wouldn’t want to ruin the secret for you either!

Star Wars Secrets of the Empire: How does it work?

Before you go into the hyper reality Star Wars Secrets of the Empire experience you have to put on RIG (Rapture Insertion Gear) this allows you to feel the force of all the things around you via haptic feedback! (It’s so hard not to tell you what you’ll be feeling!) You then put on the VR/AR headset to give you a full 360 degree HD experience of Star Wars. You also get given a blaster (which also has haptic feedback built in)

We won’t say much else but our very own Marcus Bronzy had this to say:

“That was one of the most intense virtual reality experiences I have felt, I feel like I have actually been a part of a Star Wars film”
