Google Maps AR

We came across the below tweet earlier on the week and we are very very impressed! Who needs Google Glasses or Apple Glasses when you have got your phone and AR! Say hello to Google Maps AR! It’s now looking like it’s starting to roll it out slowly to some users

Google announced this feature in May of 2018 at it’s annual I/O developer conference. At the time it was called the AR Visual Positioning System. Which provided a layer of augmented reality over reality. Just raise your phone in front of your eyes and you are given directions of where to go. Whereas if you were to put your phone down it will revert back to the traditional map view.

It doesn’t look like something I’d use all the time and Rachel Inman the AR lead for the project told the Wall Street Journal that it’s not meant to be used as a primary navigation tool. Rather intended to be put to use when looking for a difficult to find specific road.

Augmented Reality

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Echos: Augmented Reality

Ubisoft have announced a really cool augmented reality game for The Division 2 called: Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Echos. The game uses Augmented Reality and GPS Technologies. It’s built in collaboration with DDB Paris and Make Me Pulse. It will take players in to the world of The Division 2 and can be accessed here:

If that link looks weird. It’s because it is, it’s an app that’s exclusively available on Messenger. Furthermore, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Echos will throw players deeper into the game narrative and it’s no joke either. Also, there’s a total of 50 different stories to take a look at. You will be given the chance to discover the everyday lives of the civilians of Washington DC. Lives that have been hit by the virus outbreak that struck NYC. However, it’s 7months later than the NYC incident.

Furthermore, players will be able to collect exclusive rewards whilst playing Echos and in-game items for The Division 2 which will be automatically unlocked on launch day. (March 15th)

Led by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with seven other studios around the world**, Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2 is the next evolution in the open-world online shooter RPG genre that the first game helped establish. Set seven months after a deadly virus was released in New York City, Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2 will bring players into a fractured and collapsing Washington D.C.

The world is on the brink, its people living through the biggest crisis ever faced in human history. As veteran Division agents, players are the last hope against the complete fall of society as enemy factions vie for control of the city. If Washington D.C. is lost, the entire nation falls. Building upon more than two years of listening to and learnings from The Division® community, Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2 will offer a substantial campaign that organically flows into a robust endgame, to create a cohesive and meaningful experience for all types of players.

EP 64 Sex Bot Takeover (Bonus)

Our Prayers have been answered, Obi Wan is our only hope and he’s here in the form of Microsoft Holoportation!

Microsoft have invented Virtual Reality Video Calling whereby users “teleport” to another persons room.

By utilising Microsofts VR technology Hololens, users are displayed a hologram in other persons room, interacting with objects as if they are present.

Microsoft are calling it holoportation!

Go-IN the movies!?

I know what you’re thinking boys, but not THOSE movies. 😉

Augmented Reality is going to be huge according to John Gaeta the creative director of ILMxLab an immersive entertainment-focused company — showing off its insane capabilities at Sundance Film Festivals experimental New Frontier Exhibit showing off “Holo Cinema” Think “Obi Wan you’re my only hope” but bigger. It’s an AR installation that places viewers within the sandy world of Episode VII’s Jakku.

The technology relies on a pair of lightweight, sensor-laden active shutter glasses. These glasses, in combination with a motion-capture system which are used to track positioning, let viewers watch the inhabitants of Jakku via hologram.

The company is already at work on consumer-facing projects that could accompany the studio’s next blockbuster films. So when Episode VIII of Star Wars hits theaters, according to Gaeta, there’s a very good chance it’ll arrive with a Holo-Cinema version that you’d pay through the nose to go see. But lets face it you definitely would. Look how cool it is!
