How Do You Find A Vehicle That Fits Your Personality?

10th October 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by marcusbronzy

Many of us, usually in the midst of our childhoods, have once dreamt about owning our own vehicle that is not simply ours in ownership, but resembles our personality to some degree. A car such as Knight Rider, with a voiced AI, a cool color scheme that is in no way ostentatious and a few cool missions to utilize said vehicle with can be a dream for many, something that despite our best efforts to convince ourselves we have grown out of this dream, we never really do.

But despite this seeming like quite a comical situation, wishing to find a vehicle that fits your personality can help you ask relevant questions when filtering your search for a new vehicle. While Suttons UK can help you find the best vehicle at the best rates, narrowing your options can be a little trickier. With that in mind, we believe the following advice can help you achieve the best result, and find you that car you were supposed to drive all along:

What Will You Use It For?

Purchasing a vehicle for a business enterprise, something to run the children to school, or help you with rural living will all require vastly different options. Services such as Suttons UK can help you find the best measure of looking for the best car possible, but it’s also important to know what the bulk of your time behind the wheel will be. Additionally, considering what your road environment is most of the time can be helpful. If you have to drive over an hour to commute, it might be that something with great fuel economy is preferably to something nimble that can zip around a city with ease. With these parameters in place, you can make the best decision.

Aesthetic Preferences

What aesthetic are you interested in? Perhaps you enjoy high wheel arches, a 4×4 vehicle with plenty of ground clearance, a small car with a somewhat cute ‘spoiler’ or a certain candy paint aesthetic that you may find it hard to find elsewhere. If you’re into car modifications, finding a model that allows for nice bodykit work or maintenance could be a priority for you. It’s perhaps the least important filter on this list, but it can be a great measure of helping you refine your search just a little.

Budgeting Allowance

Of course, it always comes down to money. Not only in how you might purchase the car, but how you might opt for a finance plan, how reliable the model is known to be, and what the fuel mileage is. Additionally, what you trade in a previous car for may be worth knowing, because it could help you find something a little out of your means otherwise. With that in mind, you can enjoy upgrading your vehicle to the point you are most happy with.

With this advice, you’re sure to find a vehicle that does truly fit your personality.

Kia e-Niro Quick Look!

  • Class-leading driving range of 282 miles
  • Can be recharged to 80 per cent battery life in as little as 54 minutes
  • Clean zero tailpipe emissions motoring
  • Successfully combines two of the fastest growing trends – crossover styling
    with electrification
  •  Unique styling cues help to differentiate the e-Niro from the Niro Hybrid and
    PHEV
  • A single high-specification, feature-rich model

Our thoughts of the Kia e-Niro

Recently we tested the new Kia e-Niro. An electric vehicle from Kia, created in California, USA and Naming, Korea. It looks incredible and has a ‘Clean and High -Tech’ design. We especially like the futuristic and aerodynamic ‘tiger-nose’ grille. Not only because it looks great but it has an integrated charging port on it! Though the arrowhead shaped LED lights with the blue trim highlights does make it POP! It’s clearly a family car but it has an aerodynamic performance to it. Giving it character and different from the rest. (Not forgetting the HUGE 17 inch aluminium alloy wheels!)

The inside….

The centre console is a big change in the e-Niro, as the electric powertrain doesn’t actually require a traditional gear lever and gear linkage. It’s been replaced by a ‘shift by wire’ rotator dial drive selector. This sits on its own panel on the central armrest. The new panel also houses buttons for the electronic hand break, heated seats and steering wheel, the drive mode select, parking sensors and the e-Niro’s braking ‘Auto Hold’. Better yet, the new panel has no bulky transmission panel thus enabling a large storage area at the base of the centre console. Cool right?

Dashboard Tech

Dashboard is super realistic as it has a bright blue trim around the air vents, black and blue trims also line the doors which make it look really cool! There is also a shelf at the base of the instrument panel which has a wireless charger on it!

There is an 8” touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard. Which shows drivers the nearest charging point as well as highlighting the remainign charge and range. Furthermore it shows how much CO2 reduction the car is reducing both on their trip and lifetime ownership of the vehicle. This touchscreen will also show users to set the approximate departure time for their next journey. Why is this important? Well the car will heat itself to a set temperature before the driver departs.Perfect for the winter!

The 7” LCD Driver instrument cluster will show drivers the battery charge info ont he move, it will also gauge whoever is sitting at the wheel. Attributing a percentage to the amount of ‘economical’ driving the driver does on each journey. If you like instant off the line acceleration, it will also show you what percentage of the journey has been completed with ‘dynamic driving’

Design

The Kia e-Niro has merged crossover inspired design with long distance zero emissions and enjoyable performance. It has achieved this with it’s next gen electric powertrain, using tech that has been developed specifically for Kia electric vehicles. Allowing drivers to complete long distance drives with zero emissions and really low running costs. Yet, despite no petrol or diesel power the e-Niro can go 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. Plus it’s Front Wheel Drive too!

The e-Niro is really safe too, thanks to the Electronic Stability Control and Vehicle Stability Management! It can control skids when cornering or accelerating on uneven levels of grip. The Hill Start Assist Control also prevents the car from rolling too!

The car is very rigid too and has reinforced critical areas with crumple zones, front and rear and anti intrusion beams on the sides. It has seven airbags, including a set which protects a drivers knees!

Tech & Safety

The Kia e-Niro has regenerative braking which allows the car to harvest kinetic energy and recharge the battery. Both while coasting and braking. Furthermore the Eco Driving Assistant System will provide drivers information on how to drive more efficiently. Plus the Coasting Guide Control (CGC) and Predictive Energy Control (PEC), enabling drivers to maximise
vehicle range by suggesting when to coast or brake.

The CGC take information from the satellite navigation system to anticipate road conditions. It will then reduce energy use and identify opportunities to harvest additional power through coasting. It will work by altering drivers the best time to lift off the accelerator and coast towards a junction for example. Thus allowing energy to be regenerated. Therefore it means the driver can brake later and maintain momentum when traffic allows.

This may mean that you won’t need to stop at a junction or traffic lights. Traffic permitting of course. The way that the system does this is via a small icon on the instrument cluster and an unobtrusive audible warning.  While, the car also has lane assist capabilities! It will film the lane infant of the car and then it will detect the lanes and markings. It will issue sound and visual alerts to its driver if the car has moved out of it’s lane, whilst using no indicators. Steering the car back into the lane if necessary.

Crash Detection

We were also very impressed by the Forward Collision Avoidance Assist! It can detect pedestrians and cyclists bringing itself to a halt if the driver fails to react to a potential accident. So, how it does this is by short and long wave radars to monitor the proximity of vehicles and pedestrians infant of it. As, if the car things that a collision is imminent and the driver fails to react the brakes will be applied automatically.

The system is split into three main categories:

City, which can avoid low-speed urban accidents at up to 13mph.
1. Inter-Urban, which operates between 31mph and 50mph.
2. Pedestrian, which detects pedestrians and other vulnerable road users such as cyclists at up to
44mph.

Kia e-Niro’s Battery and Performance

The car’s fitted with a battery heating system which allows the e-Niro to insulate and warm up the battery whilst it is plugged in. Minimising the adverse effects of cold temperatures. It will charge up to 80% in 54mins while using a 100kW direct current charger or 75mins using a 50kW DC charger. With the 7.2kW on-board charger, charging with alternating current it will take 9hrs and 50mins. Drivers also have the option of charging their car at a compatible regular household power socket using the in cable control box!

The e-Niro can be driven in different modes, allowing them to tailor the driving experience. You can use Normal, Eco and Sport modes. All will affect the level of effort to steer the car. While Eco mode maximises the potential for greater efficiency. It does this by limiting the maximum torque and power the motor. Whilst softening throttle responses and offering more relaxed steering inputs.

However, normal mode will be the most suitable for day to day driving. It will combine the innate efficiency and performance of the powertrain with direct steering and throttle responses. Yet Sport mode will enhance the throttle response and enables maximum acceleration. It will also weight up the steering for more decisive driver inputs. So make sure you know how to drive in a sporty car if you use sport mode!

In-Car Tech

The e-Niro has an 8” touchscreen with a satellite navigation system, European mapping and a Traffic Mapping Channel. There’s also a reverse camera too! TomTom Live is also integrated into the Kia Connected Services! Providing traffic updates and alternative routes, weather forcasts, directions to restaurants and supermarkets, alerts for speed cameras and accident blackspots. Best thing about all this? Kia Connected Services is free for 7 years from the day of purchase. Decent deal if you ask us!

The Kia Connected Services is also linked to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Therefore allowing you access to everything such as Google Maps, Google Play, Siri, calls and text dictation and a lot lot more! Not forgetting Bluetooth hands free calls and bluetooth streaming either! The car also has a DAB radio with MP3 compatibility. Listen to it with the 8 speaker, 320 watt JBL audio system with subwoofer and external amplifier and front speaker. As standard! We think the Kia e-Niro is a great introduction into the EV world!

Free trial cancellations?

19th September 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Friend of the show and all round technological whizz, Joshua Browder is BACK! He is attempting to break the modern subscription based world. By offering to cancel free trial automatically for his users! How COOL is that!

No more having to remember when free trials end as this new app will do it for you! It’s called Free Trial Surfing and will use a rather clever method. It will issue users a false name and a virtual credit card number which is registered to the app developer.

They will then use this to manage the account, redirecting email addresses are available if required too. So basically you can enjoy the free trial for however long the trial is and then it will automatically die before a proper billing cycle kicks in.

It’s already available in the US. It hasn’t gone down too well with service providers and are allegedly trying to block the credit cards which are used by the service. Joshua Browder says that his banking services partner is fully on board with the project. While they are also up for the inevitable game of card number whack-a-mole that will most likely occur. However, don’t worry a UK version of the app is set to launch this week!

Teletext dies – Again.

19th September 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Teletext died a long while ago, it was the BBC’s Ceefax service and got nixed way back in 2012. It was at the same time as analogue tv got switched off. The BBC continued a similar service through the ‘red button’ it was a news service that brought you more information than what was displayed on screen. Most recently it has been used to show other feeds of matches at Wimbledon or provide alternate commentary.

However it will kill off the “Red Button” news service from next year.

“It’s always a difficult decision to reduce services, and we don’t take decisions like this lightly, but we have taken it because we have to balance the resources needed to maintain and develop this service with the need to update our systems to give people even better internet-based services.” BBC spokesperson

AR Artwork Installed In London

19th September 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Augemented Reality is taking the world by storm. Microsoft have Hololens and Apple are rumoured to be creating their own AR Headset. AR is live and readily available. So what best way to use AR other than Pokemon go? Some AR Artwork.

London based collective Frieze have launched, what may just be, the first augmented reality art exhibit. They have installed I guess you could say, a series of art sculptures in London’s Regent’s Park. All for visitors to enjoy and like through their smartphone screens.

The piece that is on show is by a South Korean artist called Koo Jeong A. It’s a series of floating ice slabs which hover in place. The artwork is said to be a comment on environmental concerns and have been built in AR by mixed reality art enabler Acure Art.

To view the artwork you will need the Acute Art App. (Linked below). The app is free so why not head down to Regent’s Park while the weather is still nice and get to see some rather cool artwork!

“I like the fact that we are introducing this object, this entity, into the most conventional and classical of environments – a royal park with statues.” Acute Art’s director Daniel Birnbaum

Smartwatch and Regular Watches banned In Exams

11th September 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

The UK are afraid of those pesky cheaters at school exams and are attempting to prevent cheating, by banning ALL watches. As it’s so hard to tell which is a smartwatch and what isn’t these days. How far tech has come.

An independent commission hired to investigate exam malpractice discovered that it’s just to difficult to tell the difference. Consequently resulting in a sweeping ban for all watches. Regular and the smartwatch. As it’s impractical to do a check on every students watches, just ban them all.

The Independent Commission on Examination Malpractice reports a “very low level of malpractice.” However it states that”a total ban on all types of watches, as well as other internet devices, removes any possibility of candidates having non-sanctioned internet access during exams.”

Schools in the US have already banned the smartwatch and regular watches from exam rooms. But the UK version is a recommendation for the UK’s Office of Qualifications and Exam Regulation. They said that it will work with the commission to implement it’s recommendations and will consider banning all watches from next summer.

The commission state that it’s due to the “sophistication of internet-enabled devices.” The commission are even going as far as monitoring the dark web for sale of exam papers and checking toilets to make sure students haven’t stashed their phones or notes in there.

Hey Siri, Get Me A Big Mac – Fast Food AI

11th September 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

You will soon be able to ask an AI patron what burger you’d like at McDonalds. McDonalds have announced that they are buying the voice tech startup Apprente. Why? So they can automate their drive-thru menu. *cue old people moaning that it will cost jobs!* Fast Food AI is on the way!

The Mountain View based company specialise in buidling voice agents which can take orders in a variety of languages and accents. McDonalds have been testing the tech in a number of locations and they hope it will make for “faster, simpler and more accurate order taking” via it’s drive-thrus.

McD Tech Labs

Apprente will be a part of the McD Tech Labs. Which are a new restaurant tech group. The team will become the groups founding members and co-founder Itamar Arel will serve as it’s vice-president.

“McDonald’s commitment to innovation has long inspired our team. It was quite clear from our various engagements that McDonald’s is leading the industry with technology”

“Apprente was borne out of an opportunity to use technology to solve challenging real world problems and we’re thrilled to now apply this to creating personalized experiences for customers and crew.”

Itamar Arel, Ph.D, co-founder of Apprente and Vice President of McD Tech Labs.

There is potential to expand Apprente’s tech into other areas like mobile and kiosk ordering. McDonalds purchase of Apprente is it’s third of 2019. After it acquired Dynamic Yield earlier this year in April. A personalised data startup, which customises it’s drive-thru menus by the weather, time of day, restaurant traffic and trending menu items. They also bought a minority stake in Plexure a New Zealand mobile app tech company. Fast Food AI looks incredible helpful, though at the cost of some jobs, will it create more at other areas of the company?

Apple’s AR Headset

11th September 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

A few hints have already pointed towards an AR headset for Apple’s products, however, there now may be clearer evidence. Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has pointed out in a readme within a new release, which explains to employees how they can run AR apps on an iPhone without using the headset. So is Apple’s AR Headset on the way?

9to5Mac’s Guilherme Rambo highlighted (tweet below)  how the latest iOS 13 beta drop (Gold Master) and the iOS 13.1 beta releases containt something called Apple’s “StarBoard” system shell to run AR apps as well. Smith suggests that rendering could be done on the iPhone itself and use of an additional gamepad/motion control device.

iOS 13.1 beta 3 and iOS 13.0 GM include the new StarBoard system shell, to run stereo AR apps. Is this real life? https://t.co/TxaX0un1dk pic.twitter.com/9LRuvIIzyc

— Guilherme Rambo (@_inside) September 11, 2019

Apple didn’t mention anything about AR in it’s September event, nor did they mention a new Apple TV or Ultra Wideband location Tags. However, the leftover notes could suggest that it could have been a late scratch. While it could also be something new is in the pipeline.

The iPhone 11 is here and there is a HUGE focus on cameras. The iPhone 11 comes with a dual camera system, a 12MP 9f/1.8) lens and a 12MP (f/2.8) ultra wide angle lens.

Apple says that this has the capability of the equivalent of a 2x optical zoom out! The camera can also shoot 4k 60 fps on both the back AND front cameras. Including slo-motion on the front camera. Apple even showed off a quirky “slofies” promo video.

Other camera based features include automatic night mode detection, shooting video whilst in photo mode (simply hold the camera shutter down) and a zoom wheel.

Furthermore Apple showed off something called a Semantics Processor and “multiscale tone mapping.” So this means that the camera will be better at focusing on people and not blowing out the highlights. Apple also noted that the portrait mode will be better at taking portrait photos of pets.

Inside the iPhone 11 is the fastest CPU and GPU in any Smartphone the A13 bionic. Also, battery life has also improved by 1hr over the XR. The iPhone 11 also has spacial audio, Dolby Atmos and toughened glass on the front and back.

Prices start at $699 and will be available in purple, white, yellow, green, black and Product (Red)

Pre-Orders start on Friday ready for Sept 20th pick up.

iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max

The powerful models to the iPhone 11 were announced at this years Apple Event too. The iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Slightly different to the iPhone 11, the Pro models have a “surgical-grade stainless steel” case and matte finish and a lot more power on the insides.

Cameras

For example the iPhone 11 Pro models have an extra wide angle lens to the telephoto and standard camera. Similar to how the telephoto lens zooms in, the wide angle will allow uses to zoom out. Allowing you to capture more of your shot, without needing to step back. Therefore giving users a lot more flexibility and control when taking photos.

A new mode called “Deep Fusion” will take 9 photos across all three cameras, stitch them together, creating a single high quality image. Furthermore the third party app Filmic Pro will allow you to record from multiple cameras at once, including the selfie photo. So you’ll be able to get footage from the front shooter right alongside the rear camera, all at the same time! Much like it’s smaller counterpart. The iPhone Pro versions also have access to the night mode and slow motion features.

Insides

The Pro iPhones are powered by the A13 Bionic Processor, they also have brand new screens. Super Retina OLED screens which have a 2Million to one contrast ratio and have up to 1,200 nits of brightness. Which Apple claim are 15% more energy efficient than ever before. They also have HDR10 support and Dolby Vision. Furthermore they also have Dolby Atmos and Spacial audio much like the normal 11.

Furthermore, battery life has vastly improved over the XS, the 11 Pro will get 4hrs over the XS and the 11 Pro Max gets 5hrs more.

The iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999, the 11 Pro Max $1,099. Pre-orders start on Friday 13th Sept at 1pm BST and they’ll be available for pick up on Sept 20th.

Samsung Galaxy Note10+

4th September 2019/in Gadgets / Tech/by billywright

Marcus has recorded a new #NewPhoneWhoDis and this time round he is joined by Julia Hardy and they are testing the Samsung Galaxy Note10+. This little machine is very very powerful. Samsung are describing it as a computer, gaming console and a professional camera. All in one. It’s also a IP68 rated phone. Water tight!

Power

The Galaxy Note10+ has superfast charging and can charge with 25W of power. Plus it has Wireless Charging on it too. The Galaxy Note10+ has a 4300mAh battery whilst the Note10 has a 3500mAh battery. You can even share the power with the back of the device with the Wireless PowerShare feature. Charge Galaxy Buds or Qi – Compatible devices with it.

The Note10+ comes with 512GB internal storage which is expandable to an extra 1TB with an external microSD card.

    On Galaxy Note10+
    On Galaxy Note10+ 5G
  • TO OVER1TB VIA MICROSD
    On Galaxy Note10+
    On Galaxy Note10+ 5G
The Galaxy Note10+ can also use two SIM cards at once. How cool is that?! The Galaxy Note10+ offers a Hybrid SIM port, so you can either add an extra SIM card or a microSD card, depending on your needs.

Speed

Rather impressively too the Note 10 and Note 10+ come with SUPER fast RAM!
  • RAM512GBON Galaxy Note10+
  • RAM58GBON Galaxy Note10
The Note 10+ has a vapour cooling system, which makes it perfect for gamers. Furthermore the immersive AR combined with the Infinity-O display and Dolby Atmos makes the gaming experience that much more immersive.

Samsung Note10+ Computer Power

Using the Samsung DeX you can use your phone like a computer. Drag and drop files from device to device and make quick edits on the big screen. Even work on the phone whilst connected to the computer via a USB cable.

The Samsung Note 10+ also has the ability to protect your data with hardware backed and multi layered Knox security platform. Furthermore the Facial recognition and Ultrasonic Fingerprint scanner keeps your device super secure. You can also use a PIN, pattern or password.

Camera

The Samsung Note10+ has a POWERFUL camera. There’s 4 cameras in total. 1 on the front and 3 on the rear. Whilst DepthVision is only capable on the Note 10+.

Blur out backgrounds with video bokeh, add special effects in real time and even use the Zoom-in Mic to record the specific sounds that you want.

Shoot hi-motion video that is super smooth too. Without motion sickness. The super powerful camera predicts movement by pulling from a library of over a million frames.  All in glorious HDR10+, 4K UHD too! Make multiple edits, insert transitions, change the speed all with the S Pen. This phone really is super powerful. It’s like a computer.

The camera has an Ultra Wide Camera that captures 123 degree field of vision at 16MP. Crop in with the 12MP Wide Angle and get 2x optical zoom on the 12MP telephoto camera.

Wide Angle Camera auto adjusts to the light around it and the F1.5 mode makes darker scenes lighter. Also the F2.4 mode keeps things sharp in bright daylight. Don’t forget Night Mode either! While the selfie camera has been updated for better low light shots.

The phone is smart too, in the sense that it is able to recognise popular subjects and use Local Tone Mapping to adjust settings for the best photo. Even take a 360 degree 3D snap of an object and turn it into an animated GIF!

S Pen

The S Pen has also been redesigned and improved! Navigate, play and pause all with the S Pen. It will match your movements and is able to control your phone with simple gestures. Such as turning it counterclockwise or clockwise to change camera angle or capture a close-crop group shot or the whole scene. Turn the volume up or down by gesturing up or down with the pen! Write like a pen and it will turn into text instantly as well!

Overall this phone is incredible and definitely one we will be using for time to come. It’s just like a computer!
