Disc Golf

Disc Golf – A unique, exciting sport!

Disc Golf is a sport that requires a player to throw a frisbee into a target at a distance in front of them. Most of all the rules of Disc Golf is similar to golf and played on courses of 9 or 18 holes or targets. As a result, players throw frisbees from a tee towards a target in the distance. Throwing multiple times once the frisbee has landed and so forth until the player reaches the target. Therefore as with golf, the player with the lowest number of throws wins the hole.

Disc Golf – The Courses

With 35,600 members of the PDGA worldwide, Disc Golf isn’t as niche as you think!

Average courses range from 200-240ft per hole. Courses are harder to complete with obstacles put in players way. Including many trees, bushes, elevation changes and out of bounds zones amongst others. Also to not drive players of different ability levels, many courses include various tee and target positions.

Played in more natural and less cleaned environments Disc Golf is different to the clean cut Golfing environment. Since safety is paramount to course designers to minimize the risk of being hit by a disc!

Yu Gi Oh is entering the world of AR and trying to knock Pokemon Go off of its perch. So Yu Gi Oh in augmented reality makes perfect sense! Since the anime series had players who’s cards used holograms to bring it’s duels to life. Therefore the logical next best step is to introduce this feature and step it up a level and bring the cards into the world of Augemented and virtual reality!

A fan of the anime series, a developer has created a game for the upcoming Microsoft hololens! Bringing the world of Yu Gi Oh into the world that we live in today. A player puts on the hololens and he puts a card up in front of the device and a monster appears!

Since the game follows the same format as the regular card game, so think of it as the regular card game but enhanced with the 21st technology of Augmented reality. Bringing to life everyone’s imagination right in front of their eyes! Futhermore users can use their voice to control the cards and the action!

AirBuddy – An easier way to Scuba!

Airbuddy – A Scuba revolution?

The AirBuddy is a small rechargeable device that allows you to Scuba dive without the need for the huge tanks!. It’s a device invented to make Scuba diving a ‘grab and go’ sport. Since diving traditionally is seen as a sport that requires lots of prep and logistics.

You generally have to fill up your tanks with 210 bar pressure, around 100 times more than your car tyres! As a result of this importance, a trained operator would have to check themselves.

Hence we have the AirBuddy! While you won’t be able to go as deep as you can with Scuba tanks, but you can go a lot deeper than regular snorkeling. Therefore the Airbuddy allows for a great middle ground! Since it doesn’t require any tanks on one full charge will allow a user to dive for 45mins at a maximum depth of 12m.

It’s incredibly light (9.5kg) and is a small device too, allowing users to pick up their AirBuddy and quickly and easily get the Scuba experience! While at a fraction of the cost and in a quicker amount of time too! A battery powered portable dive compressor ultimately. Yet not on your back the device floats on the surface and follows you as you dive.

iPhone X vs Google Pixel 2 XL Camera

It’s fair to say that the iPhone X vs Google Pixel 2 XL camera conversation is one that is due to dominate in the last quarter of 2017.  There are many differences between the iPhone X vs Google Pixel 2 XL In this post we will just be focusing on the performance of heir cameras. Please note that we have not ‘touched’ up or edited any of the images / video’s.

‘Point and Click’ has to be the most used feature of any camera phone or even camera across the world right now. So it made sense to do just that queue autumnal leaves!

As you can see the Pixel seems to offer richer colours. Different, yes but is there a clear winner at this point? Of course not! On to the next test.

Skies!

We all love a a good ol sunset / sunrise don’t we. And here it seems that the pixel takes the upper hand.  Yes there is a little burn out from the sun. But you get a much better range of colours from the Pixel.

Portrait Mode (Rear Camera)

Portrait mode on the iPhone X uses 2 camera’s and you can preview your foreground and background blurs before you shot. The Pixel 2’s single camera takes a pic.  The blur is ‘processed’ in afterwards.

At this point personally the richer colours of the Pixel XL 2 were winning me over. Plus there was a slight mis hap during a well earned mid competition coffee break.

It’s as if the iPhone X heard the Google Pixel XL taunting it’s rear end (camera). Because when we did portrait with the front facing cameras, this happened:

The iPhone X seems to find and soften the face slightly which looks good.  The slight saturation seems to add a film like feel to the selfies above.

Low Light

We didn’t test low light situations. We can confirm in low light that there is nothing quite like the Google Pixel Xl 2.  The below images were taken by Gadget show presenter Ortis Deley in a dim environment recently. We know it was dim because we were there too.

In Conclusion

It is a fact that the Google Pixel XL 2 currently has the highest rated mobile camera in the world right now.  It is a consistent performer which gives you a richer set of colours in your pics, out of the box.  If you are a selfie king or queen, the iPhone X’s smooth front facing portrait mode may be for you!

Enough siting on the fence though! For us here at how to kill an hour when it comes to cameras we think the Google Pixel 2 XL wins.

The Insta360 One also uses something called FreeCapture, users of the device can create videos in 3D. Yet if they find a specific moment, they can then hone in on that footage and convert it to a standard 1080p video. While right from within their smartphone.

The Insta360 One utilises smartphone’s on board gyroscope to edit the 360 degree scenes, using their phones as a viewfinder. So whatever they point their phone at at that specific moment of a 360 degree video, is what they’ll capture as a traditional fixed frame video.
